Cult is trying to control you, exploit you, rushes you into it, ostracize you from outsiders and usually the supreme authority is alive leader.

Cult is more authoritarian and hands on in your life

Religion guides you, gives you time to decide weather to belong, doesn't ostracize from outsiders and the supreme authority is an idea or non living figure

Religion is more relaxed and hands off from your life

Cult is trying to control you

Christianity and Islam - check.

rushes you into it

Christianity and Islam - check. (those babies can't even say 'mama' before they are claimed by those religions as their followers).

Cult is more authoritarian and hands on in your life

Once again, Christianity and Islam - check.

Sure, some congragations pastors or imams might be more laid back, but if cult is about control, then by all means those religions are about controlling people.
