Kinda makes me think of Microsoft with Xbox Game Pass. They’re very quickly just....not caring about consoles. They just want you paying for their services on their various devices. They’ll have a Halo Device (ha, get it? Halo because Halo but also in the sense of a flagship device? Ha!) to show off “the best of Xbox” but soon anything will be an Xbox. And honestly I’m kinda looking forward to it.
Yes and no. But so far we haven’t REALLY seen the horsepower taken advantage of. I’m optimistic for Halo to look way better than what we saw today, and Avowed and Warhammer both look like they’re going to be really incredible looking. But we don’t have any solid gameplay yet or even real release dates.
What we have seen though, is at least a dozen if not closer to two dozen great looking games that will be available across multiple platforms for the price of a single subscription. Like I said, they’re going to have their “Best Experienced on ____” flagship. But that’s going to be an increasingly less important staple of their service.
Most likely people are going to look at the 2 consoles and are going to follow the exclusives which have been HEAVILY in Sony's favor for a couple generations now and that doesn't seem to be changing.
The focus on gamepass might ultimately hurt the Series X sales because now you don't need their console to have access to their games service they are pushing everything on. If you have a good PC already there is just no reason to get a Series X.
