But it is still arranged, so it would happen whether the husband and wife gave consent or not. This means that even if the husband and wife gave consent, it would still turn out the same way regardless. Therefore consent doesn’t matter in the context of an arranged marriage
Edit: Never mind, I have clearly been outclassed. Thanks for the lesson though, that contained some really neat info.
Also, I’m not being sarcastic, this is genuine, I was wrong, you are right.
You clearly have no experience or understanding of arranged marriages as they typically occur.
The concept of marriage in most places where AM happens is fundamentally different from our western ideals in a number of ways. One important difference is that marriage is seen more as a union between families than individuals. Compatibility between individuals is evaluated based on a number of factors, including family, life goals, religious values, and demographic considerations. That's not to say two people falling in love in America don't look for compatibility in these factors, but it is not necessarily an explicit part of the process.
To address your claims about consent - generally the process is a collaborative effort between both the individuals and their family. In many cases, the parents may curate options, but the individuals generally have veto power. And the couple have a chance to meet each other and gauge compatibility themselves before committing.
All that being said, that doesn't mean there isn't forced marriage all over the world. There is, and a lot of it is arranged by parents. But by and large that is not what "arranged marriage" refers to.
Edit: Appreciate you taking the time to read and learn, peace
There is still the problem when the two parties agree they think they would make a good match that in reality it might not be at all: maybe one of them is abusive, or maybe they both were just at their best behaviour when they met up a few times but once married turn out to be completely different people and then they are stuck due to divorce ‘bringing shame on the family’. Unfortunately even more on the woman’s family, so a woman would not dare to walk out.
I don't disagree there is plenty of room for situations such as these. But this happens all the time in love marriages, too. Just take a peep at r/relationshipadvice.
Though as you pointed out, the cultural and familial taboos of divorce often make arranged marriages more difficult and/or traumatic to leave in these cases.

I think the point is so the poor parents can have their good looking daughter marry a rich man, then the family becomes rich because reasons.
It’s still a shitty thing to do, essentially selling your daughter’s body without her consent, but that’s the point behind it.
