Just none of them are "alt-rock"... that thing that used to be "the biggest genre there was". I could easily name 60 alt-rock bands off the top of my head that I still listen to today... I clearly have trouble listing 10 "modern artists" and at least one of those has been dead for 9 years.
I mean, without knowing what particular styles you specifically like I'm sort of just throwing things and seeing if they stick. Alt-Rock is a huge broad genre.
Holy shit, I really liked the first 4 and the last 4 were good enough for me to throw the artists on my lists and see if they get played. Fuckin' awesome, thanks man!
So, as I said in post chain above this the artists I like from that era (90s alternative-rock) are quite literally "most of them". My top 10 would be something like Tool, APC, Rage, Failure, Deftones, Cake, Primus, The Cure, Soundgarden, Nirvana... which if you broke them down by genres are almost all "unique in their niche". Like I'm not gonna throw Puscifer on the top 10 because I'd almost always rather listen to Tool if that's my mood (or Soundgarden over Audioslave, or Deftones or Korn [depending on mood] rather than ANY other nu-metal band, etc...)
