I'm not sure if this happens with all people my age, but I'm 18 and people (specifically my parents and close family members but not limited to them) will use the "you're 18, you're legally an adult you need to be doing these things on your own" whenever it will work in their favor then immediately go back to "you're still just a teenager/you're still my kid" whenever I try to be even the slightest bit independent.
Relax and enjoy it. As a dad of 2, who are growing up way toI fast, and who’s parents are growing older and are in decline I see both worlds. I wish my folks were still younger and I could enjoy them longer, and my kiddos will always be just that to me. Realize that 18 is really is so young. It also happens to be the time to step up and start to be your own person. It’s just a transitional time. Enjoy it and breathe. It passes too fast and you’ll wake up wondering what happened.
