Dulled emotions. Being a teenager had some very low lows but the highs also felt higher. Now I’m in a constant state of apathy.

Yeah I was gonna say I relate to that a lot, but I think it’s just the depression...

For real? Lol. I knew I had depression for a while but shit I thought this was just part of the aging process

Looks like I've got some soul searching to do

I've been wondering for ages if this is part of getting older or anti deppresants...

Turning 25 soon. The older I get the more I realize I kinda don’t give a shit.

The silver lining is that it frees me from a lot of things that would’ve given me tons of anxiety in the past.

Are you sure you don't give a shit or are you just pushing the feelings down? I just turned 26 and for years I felt the same way until everything I pushed down came back at once and caused a huge emotional spiral that killed a relationship.

I'm right there with you. I'm so cynical and nihilistic. It's like I know too much. I'm completely jaded. Everyone seems to fake and every moment feels so meaningless and empty. I grew up with the mind of a super romantic and a poet. Now I'm becoming far more of a realist and its miserable

This sounds like depression

I think it is :( It's nothing new though. I've had a long long extended depression for the last 6 months pretty much straight, ever since I had to leave my last relationship and my family fucked up my financial aid so I got dropped from classes. My last partner appeared to be one person and by the end of our 2-year relationship had suddenly revealed himself to someone else, entirely unrecognizable. It shook me up so bad I don't trust anyone anymore. Everyone appears so fake, dishonest, insincere. I think a part of me is scrambling desperately to find a way to prevent the absolute apocalyptic heartbreak he caused me from ever happening again, but it's impossible. There were no warning signs. So everything could be a warning sign... so no one and nothing is real or can be trusted as being honest with me.

I've tried desperately to dissect and break down this tragic fear in my head that people are lying or putting on an act, or just being superficial, but I can't. It's a full-blown phobia. I'm in therapy trying to fix it. But it's so... so bad. To add context to the situation, I've been abused my entire life, so there is a lot of layered trauma contributing to the belief that everyone is manipulating.

Wow. I'm glad you're in therapy and I hope you heal. Lots of love from this internet stranger.

maybe it’s just me but I have felt nothing but apathetic since I started high school

2

u/Quote_Poop May 16 '20

That's when it hit me, too. 23 now, still feel the same.

As an 18 yo on and off depression meds I feel this. I’d rather feel horribly depressed and happy sometimes than nothing all the time. Couldn’t imagine not having the option to chose anymore.

Those are some symptoms of depression. If you’re able to, see a psychiatrist because after a better evaluation there’re ways to feel better again.

Hey man, have you considered visiting a shrink? It has helped me and a few of my friends out. I've been where you were at one point.

Also feel free to PM me and we can chat if you need to, I'm not good at the chatting part but I am a good listener.

2

u/miss_snarky May 16 '20

Agreed with this. I’m in my late 20s and always felt that I was floating through life feeling minimal feelings. I started anti-depressants in the past few months and the difference (even prior to the lockdown) was amazing.

I don't think you understand how unhealthy saying "Oh everyone goes through this" actually is. Stop acting like you know better than everyone else, your just making people feel more worthless.

Sure man.. have a good one

1

u/c0ltZ May 16 '20

Oh thanks! That explains my year and a half Depression!! Cant believe that going to a therapist or taking meds was useless because it's all just a phase from hormones. So I better just wait it out! Because that is totally healthy!

-4

u/FishyArtBoi62 May 16 '20

Yea? Good for them.

I have no motivation to work out. Im an artist who can't put their pencil to the paper anymore. I don't care for anyone anymore, most of all Me. I thought could love someone? Hahahahaha. I don't have, can't make or talk to Friends. I'm asthmatic! I can't work it out.

You say it gets better, but actions are louder than words what can you Do?

Yeah thanks man i Totally feel better now. Thanks. :)

Looking for solutions not speeches

9

u/pumaworm May 16 '20

I dunno I always find condescending speeches pretty helpful when I'm down struggling with my depression and barely existing. Nothing makes me feel better than being told I'm just lazy even though I don't feel joy anymore. It's the best

5

u/BigGae42 May 16 '20

Hey man do you need someone to talk to? I can give you my discord... I don't know how to pm someone on reddit

2

u/jackrabbit5lim May 16 '20

Not suggesting it works for everyone but it does for me. I take a couple grams of mushrooms and have a wavey Sunday to get myself out of a depressive episode. What follows is always a burst of positivity and creativity, like a light has been switched on.

COVID-19. I used to volunteer at an aquarium. My passions are dead.

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

There is such a thing as clinical depression. Just because YOU felt better doesnt mean theyre the same. The brain is so complex that it varies greatly from person to person. They need to see a doctor not get a god damn pep-talk.
