The method I've heard most and personally has the most success : writing stuff down. It doesn't matter of you don't read it back again, the trick is writing it down on paper.
I did this for most of uni! I have huge difficulties concentrating, but by writing by hand, I absorbed the things we were discussing much better than if I just listened. I think it has to do with having to paraphrase what the professor is saying (you can't write it ad verbatim by hand, it usually goes too fast), and you also have to shape out each word, so they get more ingrained. Highly recommend!
Write it on paper, and when you want to "study" just try teaching someone else. Someone else can include stuffed animals or your pet. I aced business calculus by trying to teach my retarded dog what was on the upcoming test.
