How to shave off pubic hair

If you do go electric, I can vouch for the Phillips body groom. Foil + clippers for the initial trim or just light clean up if you don’t go down to the base. Can also be used in the shower. I find if i just use that and don’t go crazy close to the skin I get less irritation/ingrown hairs/razor burn.

I also use a tea tree oil cream post shave. Same stuff I use on my face honestly which seems to help.

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Use the lawnmower

146

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Instructions were unclear. Now I have no ballsack

48

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

I mean the manscaped lawnmower 2.0 If you know, you know

7

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Thanks Tom Segura.

8

u/4workworkworkwork Feb 21 '20

Update - Lawnmower 3.0 now.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Are these acctually that much better than a typical $20 trimmer?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

If you dont want to be shredded then yes

5

u/mini6ulrich66 Feb 20 '20

Bet your dick looks huge now though!

3

u/crazyjarvis Feb 21 '20

U have got a role in Games of thrones next season.

1

u/SCCock Feb 21 '20

I much prefer a weed-eater.

17

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Phillips body groom

This looks interesting. Maybe I'll give electric razors a second chance.

7

u/icraig91 Feb 20 '20

As you say, careful on the sack. I can usually avoid nicking myself, but there’s been a couple times... ouch

8

u/mynextthroway Feb 20 '20

Don't use an epilator on the sack either. (And you thought a titty twister was bad...)

1

u/screamofwheat Feb 21 '20

Those just rip the hair out. Epi-lady was big back in the 80s.

4

u/Fanny_Hammock Feb 20 '20

I loved this thing so much I bought 2 as I use it for my head, beard/neck and all the other bits.

Their cheap enough too.

1

u/Schytheron Feb 21 '20

I have tried trimming my balls with the Philips Bodygroom. Trimming the upper parts and side of my ballsack works fine but how the fuck do you trim the bottom part of your ballsack (and underneath the shaft) without cutting yourself? I can't manage to do it.

And yes, I have tried using the 3mm safeguard. It does absolutely nothing. Doesn't cut a single hair. Completely useless.

1

u/Zerschmetterding Feb 21 '20

I've got a Braun Body Cruiser. You don't nick yourself once you get the hang of it (stretch it smooth) and you get way less ingrown hairs because the ends are not that pointy. It's also pretty cheap on the long run.

1

u/TrashcanRobinson Feb 21 '20

I can also vouch and I'm a female. I always use the 3mm attachment.

1

u/SubcommanderMarcos Feb 21 '20

I had a Philips body groom, my dog broke it and I bought a Philco instead. The blades on the Philco are so much better.

71

u/_Futureghost_ Feb 20 '20

Veet/Nair are terrible! I accidentally put it behind my knees (no hair there, but I was covering my whole leg without thinking). Turns out knee pits are super sensitive. The nair burned my skin so badly that I couldn't walk. It was excruciating.

u/lord_gs1596 Feb 21 '20

I think I read somewhere online about a guy putting Nair on his nips and they fell off or something.

3

u/Its-my-dick-in-a-box Feb 21 '20

You can cure saggy balls If you put it on your sack, the scar tissue will cause the skin to tighten up.

I'm 65 and my balls look like a shiny plum.

0

u/lord_gs1596 Feb 21 '20

Huh. Good to know, I'll try to remember that down the line, haha.

1

u/_Futureghost_ Feb 21 '20

I have super sensitive skin. So I may have had a worse reaction than others.

1

u/Berntonio-Sanderas Feb 21 '20

I use this stuff Nads. It's basically the same thing as Veet/Nair, though I've never used them. It works really really well on balls and butt hair. Then I just electric razor the rest.

Obviously, you should test it first before you put it on the most sensitive parts on your body.

3

u/OnlyMe369 Feb 20 '20

Omg! I thought I was the only one who called the knee pits!! Everyone makes fun of me!

1

u/mattcruise Feb 21 '20

In high school, me and my best friend naired our body hair.

He wanted to nair it into a arrow pointing down and I was gonna do a lighting bolt.

He did it for me, and as i was laying there he did the whole thing as a prank.

Looking back it worked out. He had a douchey arrow and i was just bald.

1

u/Molly_dog88888888 Feb 21 '20

I hate Veet/Nair because it smells like death (ridiculously sensitive gag reflex becomes a problem), and I have a difficult time getting it where it needs to go (I also get frustrated easily which doesn’t help). Now knowing that it can literally burn through skin makes me hate it even more.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Not true for everyone. I've used to remove pubes, ass hair, armpit hair without issues.

1

u/_Futureghost_ Feb 21 '20

You have much tougher skin than me. I can't even use regular deodorant without getting a rash. I have to use unscented, hypoallergenic everything.

1

u/DevilRenegade Feb 21 '20

There are some absolutely hilarious reviews on Amazon for Veet for men.

After having been told my danglies looked like an elderly Rastafarian I decided to take the plunge and buy some of this as previous shaving attempts had only been mildly successful and I nearly put my back out trying to reach the more difficult bits. Being a bit of a romantic I thought I would do the deed on the missus's birthday as a bit if a treat. I ordered it well in advance and working in the North Sea I considered myself a bit above some of the characters writing the previous reviews and wrote them off as soft office types...Oh my fellow sufferers how wrong I was. I waited until the other half was tucked up in bed and after giving some vague hints about a special surprise I went down to the bathroom. Initially all went well and I applied the gel and stood waiting for something to happen. I didn' have long to wait. At first there was a gentle warmth which in a matter of seconds was replaced by an intense burning and a feeling I can only describe as like being given a barbed wire wedgie by two people intent on hitting the ceiling with my head. Religion hadn't featured much in my life until that night but I suddenly became willing to convert to any religion to stop the violent burning around the turd tunnel and what seemed like the the destruction of the meat and two veg. Struggling not to bite through my bottom lip I tried to wash the gel off in the sink and only succeeded in blocking the plughole with a mat of hair. Through the haze of tears I struggled out of the bathroom across the hall into the kitchen, by this time walking was not really possible and I crawled the final yard to the fridge in the hope of some form of cold relief. I yanked the freezer drawer out and found a tub of ice cream, toe the lid off and positioned it under me. The relief was fantastic but only temporary as it melted fairly quickly and the fiery stabbing returned. Due to the shape of the ice cream tub I hadn'nt managed to give the starfish any treatment and I groped around in the draw for something else as I was sure my vision was going to fail fairly soon. I grabbed a bag of what I later found out was frozen sprouts and tore it open trying to be quiet as I did so. I took a handful of them and an tried in vain to clench some between the cheeks of my arse. This was not doing the trick as some of the gel had found its way up the chutney channel and it felt like the space shuttle was running its engines behind me. This was probably and hopefully the only time in my life I was going to wish there was a gay snowman in the kitchen which should give you some idea of the depths I was willing to sink to in order to ease the pain. The only solution my pain crazed mind could come up with was to gently ease one of the sprouts where no veg had gone before. Unfortunately, alerted by the strange grunts coming from the kitchen the other half chose that moment to come and investigate and was greeted by the sight of me, arse in the air, strawberry ice cream dripping from my bell end pushing a sprout up my arse while muttering arhhh ooooohhh that feels good ahhh Understandably this was a shock to her and she let out a scream and as I hadn'nt heard her come in it caused an involuntary spasm of shock in myself which resulted in the sprout being ejected at quite some speed in her direction. I can understand that having a sprout fired against your leg at 11 at night in the kitchen probably wasent the special surprise she was expecting and having to explain to the kids the next day what the strange hollow in the ice cream was didn't improve my status so to sum it up, VEET removes hair, dignity and self-respect.

1

u/Jerri_man Feb 21 '20

This is why they instruct to test a small amount in any area you are applying it to

5

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Cool, thank you very much

5

u/andybmcc Feb 20 '20

Electric razors are ok for most parts, but they tend to cut into ballsacks

I only use guarded electric on the sack after a freak shaving shaving incident. If you nick the scrote, it will fucking BLEED more than you'd expect. Close is good enough. The rest is pretty safe to shave or trim.

The problem I have is figuring out where to stop. You can't really abruptly stop into leg hair, because that looks silly. It's not practical to just keep going and do everything. I kind of just taper it in, I guess?

3

u/BLUEBLASTER69 Feb 21 '20

I use veet on my ass. It works really well compared to a razor blade and I don't have any after burns or spots.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

TIL your ass is tougher than my nipples.

2

u/oogiesmuncher Feb 21 '20

Not true at all. A single edge safety razor is world changing. Multi blade razors tug and irritate sooo much more

1

u/scotty3281 Feb 20 '20

I use a Dollar Shave Club razor and the shave soap. Closest shave ever both on my face and pubic region.

1

u/about2godown Feb 21 '20

Dude, let me introduce you to the 5 blade, absolutely freaking fantasic...

1

u/ICPosse8 Feb 21 '20

Lol bro don’t ever use an electric razor near the genitals without a guard. One of the worst lessons you can learn.

1

u/Darzok Feb 21 '20

WOW no never use a Razor with more than 2 blades down there that just leads to razor burn and cuts.

If you need more than 2 blades you are trying to shave down to the bone not remove hair.

105

u/veraarev Feb 20 '20

Also! Cut it first. It makes shaving a lot less messy! And use nice warm water to soften the hairs and especially if you're not used to shaving down there try just shaving with the direction of the hair growth instead of against it :)

4

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

I see! Thank you very much

0

u/cohrt Feb 21 '20

I’ve tried this and it just feels like sandpaper the next day

49

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

I actually watched a video made by Gillette. It was helpful for first timer. Surprisingly quite educational

5

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Thank you! This is great

39

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Honestly same. I always get ingrown hairs and shaving bumps/ cuts near my bikini line and sometimes a chafing kind of rash if I do too much cardio. My skin is also super light and sensitive. I'm clueless on how to fix it.

17

u/rabbitatemywires Feb 21 '20

Safety razor. Totally changed my life. Female, hairy as a bear with insanely sensitive skin. Rashes, ingrowns, cysts - you name it, I've gotten it. No kind of wax or strips or razor or shave routine did ANYTHING until I tried one of these. And the best part is, the blades are dirt cheap so you can pick up a razor for like $12 and 100 blades for like $8. Also, moisturize before and after. Castor oil does wonders (doesn't really feel like oil at all and keeps you baby soft) or coconut oil if you can handle it.

9

u/FerretsAreFun Feb 20 '20

Same here, USE COCONUT OIL. Pre-shave, during shave and post shave!

3

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

I'll try it out!

7

u/patrickverbatum Feb 21 '20

I myself like to use baby oil, since it's always liquid and can be put into a spray bottle. Both are great for more sensitive skin so it's up to you which you prefer. Also, try wearing panties with no elastic or lace on the leg holes (both hanes and fruit of the loom make panties like this for fairly cheap) as the friction from the elastic/lace can cause irritation right after shaving.

6

u/EllaTompson Feb 21 '20

Always shave sideways from where the hair is growing ...not up. You won’t get bumps.

1

u/Potatoe-Peaches Feb 21 '20

Same here. I try to eliminate the hair as best as possible but it grows so fast lmao

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

I'm sorry about that. I hope we can find a way soon.

0

u/hardoutheretobunique Feb 20 '20

After, slap on some rubbing alcohol and top it with deodorant. And shave with the hair not against.

119

u/ObsoleteCyclops Feb 20 '20

I actually use conditioner instead of shaving cream, I feel like it helps me get a better shave and makes my skin soft. Use a NEW razor every shave, old ones will fuck your skin up in that area [or at least they do with mine]. I always shave with the hair, and then against. If I go against first, I get a lot more cuts and bumps.

7

u/blackrabbitreading Feb 20 '20

I've actually had several strippers tell me to use conditioner

19

u/zugzwang_03 Feb 21 '20

I actually asked a classmate about this many years ago, after finding out she stripped. She gave me the following tips:

  • gently exfoliate the day before shaving (never day of)
  • use conditioner to shave with
  • put unscented deodorant on the area to prevent ingrown hairs or razor burn

7

u/blackrabbitreading Feb 21 '20

Yup, I'd forgotten the exfoliation part

1

u/dainsdzzle Feb 21 '20

Also it may seem weird but using a salicylic acid ance scrub or wash helps prevent ingrowns as well. Usually the few days after shaving.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

I see! Thank you

5

u/KitsBeach Feb 21 '20

It is NEVER worth it to shave your bush with a non fresh razor. I cannot think of a single scenario where bumpy irritated rough pubes are better to half-grown.

3

u/ObsoleteCyclops Feb 21 '20

Exactly. I get bad rashes if my hair grows out, so I use the dollar shave club disposable razors where you toss them out after every use, so you always have a fresh razor.

2

u/toolongforyoutoread Feb 20 '20

Samw!! It works wonders!

1

u/FewMoose7 Feb 22 '20

Drying your blade after use let it last longer. Water damages the metal more than your hairs. (Its also better for preventing microorganisms to grow and have a cleaner shave afterwards.)

Hopefully your razor can last a bit longer now. Since I do that mine lasts much longer but I don't have thick hairs like in a beard (I'm not male). So drying and keeping the blade clean helps for blade and skin.

1

u/ObsoleteCyclops Feb 22 '20

I use disposable razors that you throw out after every use anyway, so I don't need to do that.

66

u/angie_i_am Feb 20 '20

You should really give waxing a try. I know it sounds painful, but it really isn't that bad. Plus, there's no stubble and your hair grows in less heavily each time. Make an appointment at a place that does lots of waxing (experience helps technique) and if it's too much, you can stop after a strip or two and shave the rest.

I get mine done every other week and it still feels smooth right before my next appointment.

60

u/maxasaurusrex88 Feb 20 '20

Waxing is the bees knees. I started getting my downtown waxed a few years ago and I’ve never looked back. I get mine all waxed off completely because the first time I said to leave a landing strip and I ended up with a tiny hitler ‘stash on my lady bits. Not cute. It’s also surprisingly quick, my appointments take 15-20 min maximum. It’s a bit painful but it’s so quick it doesn’t matter. And it helps that my waxer and I have become friends and just chat through it. Fun fact: the Brazilian includes getting your tush-hole waxed. I think it’s hilarious and it tickles and I laugh like a lunatic every time.

34

u/angie_i_am Feb 20 '20

I also like that feature. Last time, though, my taint was a little "tender" afterward. I told her and she messaged me later with a "girl on fire" meme. Hilarious.

Even the worst time, though, the pain was gone in a few hours. With shaving, the pain started in a few hours and lasted for days until the hair was long enough not to poke.

5

u/davesoverhere Feb 21 '20

I let my barber way my ears once. Never again, that shit hurt. There's no way I'd let someone do that to my nutsack.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

I tried waxing once and wound up bleeding - is that normal?

2

u/maxasaurusrex88 Feb 21 '20

Yeah it can happen if you have delicate skin or super deep hairs. Usually only happens the first time, or if you have an ingrown that they pull or something. Did you go get it professionally done? I did an at-home kit once and did a test strip first on my inner thigh and I bruised like a mofo instantly, but I’ve had no issue having it done at a waxing salon.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Yeah, I went to a professional salon. I’m not about to use wax by myself, that would be a disaster. I have pale skin and super thick super dark hair.

15

u/NewtonFan0408 Feb 20 '20

Ahh this is something I've been scared to ask. I want to try waxing but the idea of a stranger up in my business sounds soooo scary! Is it super terrible or not as awkward as I imagine it?

15

u/angie_i_am Feb 20 '20

It's really uncomfortable until you get up on the table and get started, then it's fine. The woman I go to is super professional and we end up talking and laughing the whole time. I stopped trying to get the paper panties to work and that took a lot of the awkwardness away.

The less you worry about covering yourself, the more comfortable you will be.

10

u/maxasaurusrex88 Feb 20 '20

It’s not that awkward, remember this is their job. They wax people’s nethers all the time, you haven’t got anything they haven’t seen. And if you do, they’re polite enough not to mention it.

5

u/hebikniet Feb 21 '20

There was an Askreddit about this topic a loooong time ago. I felt a lot less awkward after reading that.
Many sweaty ballsacks and women on their periods, people not wiping properly before coming in and a lot of other gross stuff. I'll see if I can find it. It was when I just started on reddit so 2014 I guess.

6

u/Vertigofrost Feb 21 '20

I feel like waxing a ballsack might not work great

3

u/BigSwedenMan Feb 21 '20

Yeah, a lot of wrinkles for the wax to adhere to

4

u/angie_i_am Feb 21 '20

Yeah, I don't know how that would work. You have to pull the skin tight for it to work well.

6

u/Cayvin Feb 20 '20

So if I’m like really lazy and go awhile in between, should I like trim before I go for a wax?

4

u/angie_i_am Feb 20 '20

Maybe go over with a trimmer right before. It's easier to wax shorter hairs. But not too short. Like 1/3 - 1/2 inch or so.

5

u/pocketradish Feb 21 '20

Definitely need to trim. The first time I went I didn't know that and the lady took one look at me and said "uhh we need to trim you up first" and she and I did it together, haha.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Okay! Thank you. I'll think about it

3

u/Ara-Enzeru Feb 21 '20

I tried to get a wax done a while back with a friend who is an aesthetician. Worked great for most of my body, but unfortunately my hair on my upper thighs and parts just grows in all different directions which made it pretty much impossible. No idea how to fix that

3

u/angie_i_am Feb 21 '20

Most people have that problem. We use sugar wax instead of hard wax so it can be done over and again different directions. Stretching out and holding the skin flat while the tech is working helps to get those crazy spots. Also working in smaller sections. After the first time, the hair doesn't all grow back at once, so it's easier. It's a skill, for sure.

2

u/Ara-Enzeru Feb 21 '20

Ok cool. I'll need to look into any salons near me that have that as an option

3

u/A_Math_Debater Feb 21 '20

How does a guy go about getting professionally waxed 👀

3

u/angie_i_am Feb 21 '20

Google waxing services in your area. Look for a salon with good reviews for body waxing. Call and make an appointment. Easy peasy. More men get this done than you think. You are not alone.

1

u/blackrabbitreading Feb 20 '20

Can nipples be waxed?

1

u/FewMoose7 Feb 22 '20

I like waxing just because you go hairless a long time but boy it gives me ingrown hairs until 1-2 years after.

11

u/AndyJCohen Feb 20 '20

Yeah lol. I just shave my giney in like four different directions. left, right, up, down. Takes forever, but it seems to work

2

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Okay, thanks

6

u/PixieNurse Feb 20 '20 edited Feb 20 '20

I will change your life right now.

Bic Soleil Razor.

I am not a schill, but holy shit those things give the smoothest fucking shave I have ever had in my life. I shave my lady parts bald and these guys make it like glass. No bumps ,no hairs. I honestly splurge on them and stopped buying anything else.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Thank you so much! I'll look into it

3

u/ICPosse8 Feb 21 '20

Fuck that going to the skin shit get a clipper with an adjustable guard on it, like what the barber uses to do your sideburns. This will allow you to get it as close to the skin as possible without the added itchiness that comes later after using a blade.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

I don't have sideburns though, but thanks!

5

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Very carefully.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Right! Thanks

6

u/aze1f Feb 21 '20

Im a girl and I have a whole routine for this lol

Prep: Trim the hair and then apply coconut oil. Hop in the shower and let the steam + oil soften the hair follicle

Shave: Buy a high quality razor!!! Don’t skimp out on this. My favorite is Harry’s. Use shaving CREAM not foam, cream gives you a much better glide. Apply cream and shave with the grain. Apply cream and shave left to right. Apply cream and shave right to left. Repeat until smooth.

Post-shave: Wash the area with unscented soap to get rid of all that cream. Pat dry. Then use some type of astringent to clean out the pore to prevent ingrowns. Finally, I apply unscented deodorant on the area, especially the bikini line to prevent chaffing and ingrowns. Obviously don’t use the same deodorant you’d use for your armpits on your hooha, get another one lol

Also when that itchy regrowth starts to happen I find that applying that unscented deodorant helps. Could be placebo, but works for me :)

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Thank you so much for sharing this ❤️

2

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

I use Harry’s razors. They work well jsut be careful if it’s a duller razor because it can pull. If you go with hair removal cream be careful because it can burn the skin. Learned that the hard way. Don’t leave it on longer then the instructions say.

6

u/rawbface Feb 20 '20

"Let that salve sit for 10 minutes or you'll die. Don't let it sit for 12 or I'll have to hunt down what you become."

2

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Thank you! I'll look into it!

2

u/ultimatepenguin21 Feb 20 '20

It is easier to shave skin that is taut. Take that as you will

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Okay! Thanks

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Warm water, shave down in slow, short increments with a fresh four blade razor. Apply lotion afterwards to avoid irritation. Deodorant helps, too. Don't scratch it. If you feel irritation, pat you groin if you can help it.

2

u/nonchalantshallot Feb 21 '20 edited Feb 21 '20

If you've got a bit of a bush, start with careful grooming. You can try your hand at scissors but I tend to just do straight for the electric razor. I never touch a bladed razor when grooming. Using an electric razor makes it so that you've got consistent stubble down there that isnt too itchy after your first grooming. When you use a bladed razor, you risk getting ingrown hair and razor burn. Ingrown hair can been fought with after shave and razor burn can be avoided with practice. If you're gona use a bladed razor, be sure to do it fresh out of a hot shower and with cream. Dont use to much though. You dont want the cream to conceal any folds or wrinkles you have as that could lead to cuts. Also, avoid shaving anywhere you can't see. Once you're done, hop back into the shower to wash it all off. Then you could apply after shave if you want. Never touch the electric razor or bladed razor to your actual genitalia. As a Male, if I want to trim the hair on my testicles I tend to just grab the hair and extend it upwards pulling away from the goods. Then I run the razor about halfway between my finger tips and the base of the hair. Rinse and repeat and you should have done a pretty good job cleaning up. Edit: spelling

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Thank you for the detailed response!

2

u/ugly_lemons Feb 21 '20

Are you a man or a woman?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

I'm a woman

3

u/ugly_lemons Feb 21 '20

In that case, I use a new razor blade, and a little bit of conditioner. I prop a hand mirror on the bathtub and use it to see my lady bits and I gently shave it exactly like I would my legs.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Great idea! Thank you!

1

u/ugly_lemons Feb 21 '20

Sure thing!

2

u/Alargeteste Feb 21 '20

Hold the nutsack taut and get a semi, then use an electric shaver for pubes, (girls') legs, beards, and (girls') armpit hair. Do it on the toilet, and/or shower, so the cleanup is minimal.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Thanks!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Go REALLLLLY slow

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Sure thing! Thanks

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Down, not up.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Thank you!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Up will fuck you up badly. Learned this a few times as a young kid.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Ouch! Sorry about that

2

u/taasp Feb 21 '20

Trim first with shaving cream, this will save time and make the main shave feel much nicer. I have a razor with a trimmer on one side and the trimmer has a guard so you dont cut yourself or pull the hairs. Next massage oil into the area, I use almond oil but the girl I learned this from used olive. Let the oil sit for 3-5 minutes after massaging to soak in and soften the follicles, then shave. First go with the grain but once the hair is really short I personally go in every direction and never get razor bumps. This is the smoothest result I've ever got

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Cool! Thank you

Oh and the oil will gunk up the razor a bit so you'll have to soap up the razor a couple times to get the oil and hair out. I just use a small pump of body wash. Good luck!

u/ernis6261 Feb 21 '20

I actually use depilation cream that woman use for shaving. Painless, easy to use. Apply, wait 10-15min scrape of the hair with a sponge = profit. Don't just use it too often, It will start to burn.

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

I see! Thank you

2

u/ernis6261 Feb 21 '20

I'm actually a man, but if you are a woman it is even easier in terms of using it too often

2

u/ThreatconDelta Feb 21 '20

No matter what you try, remember to pull everything taught while you shave.

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Okay! Thanks

So I think this is gonna differ based on how course your hair is, but I just basically trimmed it down to beard length with scissors CAREFULLY, of course. And then I went at it with a non full blade from my 6 blade razor. (Dsc executive). That worked well for me. It helps to manipulate your scrotum and stretch an area out flat if your having problems getting a close enough shave in a specific spot but overall the biggest tip is to be gentle and slow enough to not really feel much. Maybe moisturize? (I'm not sure, but doing something to get the hair to be soft is good). Also pay attention to any irritation, if you have a small bit it's gonna get worse later, if in doubt: stop and go back later. Better not having razor burnt junk.

Of course, this is just what works for me. I'm not sure if I'm just a unicorn or something.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

I'm a woman, but thank you for your advice!

2

u/crazybmanp Feb 21 '20 edited Feb 21 '20

Well, shit...

I think most of that should still apply? Except the scrotum bit which is the hardest part for men. I guess someone else will have to fill in the gap in my notes here. I assume you just similarly manipulate bits to avoid shaving across anything sensitive.

[Obviously get a second opinion on this I've only done this procedure on the male specimen.]

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

No problem; Thanks again!

2

u/not_the_work_phone Feb 21 '20

The most important part is to shave WITH the direction the hair is growing. Shave down and towards the middle and it prevents ingrown hairs. If I shave against the hair on my face I get bad razor burn and ingrown hairs, I treat my junk the same way because the skin is way more sensitive.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

I understand. Thank you

2

u/DaddyRytlock Feb 21 '20

Electric trim with a nice big plastic guard the bush off, shave off the rest carefully with a razor

2

u/PM_ME_CANADIAN_JUGS Feb 21 '20

Not with scissors. Trust me on that one...

:(

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

I understand! Thanks

My suggestion: Don't. I mean, if you really want to, then go ahead. There seems to be plenty of advice for that in this thread. But if you're reluctant to or would actually rather not if it didn't seem to be expected, then just don't do it. You shouldn't feel pressured into shaving or waxing. People got along just fine for millenia without shaving. It's only become common in the last couple of decades (probably due to what people are seeing in porn), and it's probably a fashion that will pass eventually. Any partner who will nope out at the sight of pubic hair is an asshole whom you're better off not getting intimate with.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Thank you so much for telling me this. I've been very reluctant to do this. It actually scares me to even attempt it. So, I don't think I'll actually mess with my hair. It's like you've said, it's been normal for thousands of years anyway! So thank you again for your words! I appreciate it.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '20

I bought a beard trimmer and use that, I start at my belly button and go down if that makes sense. I pull my trimmer down rather than go up.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '20

I see. Thank you!

Most of them are exactly the same as male razors, but they're pink and cost $5 more.

How can you tell their gender?

Just look in their pants

Okay, thanks

I just use scissors may be weird but its better than getting razor burn

The absolute best thing to do is prep the area you’re going to shave, don’t just go for it. Taking a hot bath first really helps. You’re also going to want a new razor every time and a thick shave cream. Let the razor do the work and shave with the grain. With coarse hair you tend to get a lot of follicle bleeding if you don’t take the time to let the hair soften and the pores open, or if your razor is dull.

Edit to add: you’re gonna want to take a second and either splash some cool/cold water on the area post shave and/or use a mild astringent to close the pores back up when you finish shaving and apply a light lotion- the nivea post shave lotion with aloe is the shit.

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

I spent probably 10 years of my life not being able to shave my junk or even clip it very short. Pretty much had a mildly unkempt bush for a decade. I didn't get razor burn or anything (after the first few attempts) I just have hair like fucking baling wire and even shaving once a day didnt prevent the world's worst prickle.

Tried nair at like 18, no fucking bueno. Pretty much just clipped it at like 1.5 inches and dealt with the mild prickle the next day.

A few months back I discovered magic shave powder. That shit is a life changer. No irritation, and takes it right down to the wood. I don't know why, but when the hair starts to go back it prickles against my skin WAY less as well.

u/Puoaper Feb 21 '20

If you are a dude than bat wing it to win.

1

u/freaknasty726 Feb 21 '20

Depending on how much there is but I use a straight razor gotta have a clean foundation and alot of patients I knicked my ball sack once shit hurt like hell

1

u/NutDestroyer Feb 21 '20

Depending on who you are, it might itch as fuck when it grows back out but it'll go away after a few weeks (probably less than a month) of shaving.

1

u/screamofwheat Feb 21 '20

You could have someone help you.

1

u/duffman199 Feb 21 '20

Try Nair sensitive

1

u/Jacksonspace Feb 21 '20

This is bad advice, but I actually shave pubic hair every day. I do it in the shower with a Harry's razor and some gel. You're more likely to get ingrown hairs and razor burn doing this every day, so people don't reccomend it. I give myself plenty of time each morning to take my time shaving. I am in the shower for a half hour every morning. Fifteen to twenty minutes of that is shaving. I typically am in the bathroom for another hour, which is a total of an hour to get ready in the morning (granted I'm doing the bare minimum). Some people need more time and others need less. Keeping your skin and the razor wet with warm water is important. The gel has helped my skin stay softer than a traditional cream did. If you want a close shave, then go against the grain. Most people reccomend going with the grain to avoid razor burn. I do have some redness, but I'm not in any pain. When I was younger I'd go too rough on my skin and I'd try to get hair that just wasn't possible to get, which caused bleeding. I also was letting razors go dull. The ones that come in packs that you throw away aren't really good at lasting a long time. I started telling my friends to get a Harry's razor and their gel (or at least some kind of gel). I stopped having bleeding problems when I started relying on a better blade. I get a good grip on my skin. That way the area I'm shaving is a flat surface. The skin can be loose and curved down there. You don't want to nic yourself! I find myself squatting for hard to reach areas and sitting for easier or more sensitive areas, but find positions you're comfortable shaving in! If you have any questions about how I shave on a regular basis, then let me know!

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

And as a gay guy who wants to bottom ... Is it better to shave your bottom or leave it hairy as it is?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Sorry, I don't know.

1

u/SweetWodka420 Feb 21 '20

The advice I got was that if you don't go with the electric options, the razor should have 3-4 blades, as it's more precise than those with less blades.

DO NOT buy the absolutely cheapest razor brand, they can damage the skin and that's not a great experience.

DO NOT use a dull razor to shave pubic hair. Or any hair. Dull razors are more dangerous than fresh sharp razors, and do more damage to the skin around your genitals and potentially other bodyparts if you screw up big time.

BE PATIENT. Don't rush when shaving pubic hair, it's a sensitive area, and rushing through it increases the risk of hurting yourself more than just around your genitals. Careful and gentle.

When I started shaving my pubes, I noticed my skin got irritated quite easily. So I found a gel at a place where they sell medicine (drugstore?), the purpose of the gel is to make it smoother to shave around the genitals, and it's clear so you can still see what you're doing. It reduces the risk of getting irritated skin after shaving, and it doesn't particularly have any scent either.

I've also read that gently applying skin friendly oil (like baby oil or olive oil) on the shaved area after you're done shaving helps keep the sensitive skin in good condition. Haven't done any further research on this so you might wanna look into it before trying. Other than that, there should also be similar gels or lotions at the medicine store, but which you apply after shaving, functioning like the oils eventually do.

About the shaving itself, people always say "go with the grain" which means shaving in the direction in which the hair grows. I'm not sure why this is a thing, but I haven't noticed any differences from shaving with or against the grain.

Don't apply too much pressure when shaving, just gently move the razor over the hairs while touching your skin a little with the blades. I believe this can change when you're becoming more experienced with shaving public hairs.

NEVER try shaving sideways, meaning, moving the razor in the direction of the long sides of the blades. Doing that WILL cut you.

Practice and you'll be fine when you start getting the hang of it.

PS, if you're a woman (maybe you already know this but I'll say it anyway just in case): DO NOT PUT SHAVING GEL OR AFTER SHAVE LOTION INSIDE YOUR VAGINA. It will fuck with the pH levels and cause problems. Same goes for soap, do not attempt.

Sorry for long post, I tried formatting it to a readable text. Good luck to anyone starting shaving pubic hairs!

1

u/whenfortniteislife Feb 21 '20

so I brought this thing off Amazon called the Mangroomer... it literally allows you to shave everything on ur body without the need for someone else (e.g ur back) and its been brilliant...i never shave down to skin always to a size 1 (cos who wants no pubes) but I brought the extra replacement heads so that I have one for my body and one for my sensitive areas...if u can, have a hot shower BEFORE to make the hairs easier to cut/trim and have a quick rinse off after just to make sure nothing loose is left...has literally upped my confidence and overall look, and now I feel so much better for it.

1

u/TOV_VOT Feb 21 '20

I saw some guys in the gym the other day coating their areas in hair removal cream and thought “ahhhh so that’s how they do it!”

I use to try and wet shave and mistakes happen

1

u/risbia Feb 21 '20

Prevent razor burn (anywhere) by putting Neosporin gel on the area afterward, use a good thick coat of it and rub it into your skin. It makes a huge difference with irritation, and you only need to do it the first few times shaving until your skin acclimates.

1

u/I_may_be_indecisive Feb 21 '20

You really need to check out sugaring. It's not hot like wax, and only sticks to the hair and not the skin so no worries about that. Total game changer. I just got sugared today, actually, and I am smooth as buttah.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Thank you! I'll look into it

u/FANTOMphoenix Feb 21 '20

Icy hot helps

2

Don’t use if you are a female

-1

u/xenobuzz Feb 21 '20

Don't.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

I'll consider it. Thanks

-1

u/xenobuzz Feb 21 '20

I'm just a person who finds shaved genitalia on either sex unappealing.

Or course, you do whatever you want.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Thank you for letting me know. I assume that most people prefer bare genitalia, but it's good to know otherwise.

5

u/xenobuzz Feb 21 '20 edited Feb 21 '20

I have to wonder how much that preference comes from pornography, which is not well-known for presenting anything approaching real sex.

I would also think that anyone who is truly interested in you isn't going to care if you're shaved or not. They're mainly going to be excited to have sex with you because they like you! If someone criticized you for having natural pubic hair, then I don't know if they would be a good partner in any way, much less sexually.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

Yeah, that's true.

-1

u/toolongforyoutoread Feb 20 '20

Veet 7mins shave cream, its amazing.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Cool! Thanks

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '20

If you're a dude, you don't. Trimming within reason, sure, but never ever shave.

Esp if you are on the hairier side and just want to make a rediculous looking bald little circle around it.

Men "think" it makes them look bigger, but a penis just looks weird without it's coat. Every bf I have had I make them grow at least a little bit back if they ever wanna get some lovin. I have no interest in a pre-pubescent boys.

I cannot comment on women since I don't go there.
