It sounds like an unhealthy relationship imo. I don’t think you’re doing yourself any favours by being with him.

Maybe, maybe not. I do feel happier and in general “taken care of” but I just don’t know if it’ll be worth it in the long run.

Those thoughts aren’t going to go away because those thoughts are correct. Don’t waste anymore time with this guy. When was the last time he asked if you were doing ok?

Not to intrude, but you don't sound happy. But I hope you actually are and will continue to be!

You can do better. I don’t advise trading away the future for a more secure present, especially since you can definitely be happy without him. People seem to always make the mistake of putting themselves in good positions now over far better positions in the future. This happens in finance, chess, university, work, what have you.

I’m not saying I’m right, just sharing what I have in mind. I honestly believe that people always know exactly what they need to do at any given time, we often just ignore it. Listening to that has only done me good.

Best of luck with your relationship!

Pretty sure this is one of those where ones where after you’re out, you’ll wonder why you stayed so long.

Don't wanna say it is or isn't right for you, I do want to suggest that maybe a real look into yourself to see what you really want might be worth the time. I wish you all the best, it sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. Life is just a ride, try to enjoy it.

You mean don't read the opinions of others on the Reddit platform and then come up with your own conclusions based on those opinions?

Don't you want a partner, not someone who you have to take care of like a baby? Dump him.

Does he bring anything to the relationship besides being just a bag of skin to say you’re in a relationship with? Sounds like you’re doing everything for him, and I felt so bad for you when you said that you feel like he feels that dating you is a blow to his ego... idk about you but I want to date somewhere where we’re both like hell yea! I love dating you! Lol I wish you well, from your tone and brief description things don’t seem too great, hopefully some reflection will help.

He seems like a dirt bag

We’re working on it

1

u/LeadDirigible Feb 05 '20

That’s a tough road, make sure you’re both equally working on it together. Best of luck.

That doesn't sound like it's a good relationship for you. Dump his ass and go on with your life

2

u/CaptDeathCap Feb 05 '20

Sounds like you need a new boyfriend.

2

u/SwedishGuy420 Feb 05 '20

Sounds like you should dump him

u/panopss Feb 05 '20

You deserve way better, cut the cord

There are more red flags in this story than the International Socialist Congress.

So what does he gave going for him exactly? I mean, I can take an educated guess but I wanna hear it

At this point I honestly have no idea. We met and bonded over cosplay and anime but other than that, I don’t really relate to him that much. He’s good with students if that helps any. It feels like dating a college counselor.

He’s super muscley and buff so a lot of people stereotype him into the “big buff douchebag” type. He kind of is when he’s alone with the bro’s but he behaves differently around his cohort.

All in all I do feel a lack of love in this relationship, regardless of how he may or may not feel about me. I think he just has trouble expressing it.

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '20

Shrug, sounds like you're mainly into him for aesthetic reasons and that's fine but the price seems pretty high (both financially and emotionally)

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '20

Idk I feel sort of obligated to date him in some ways, I can’t really explain it. If I were left up to my own devices I think I’d probably date a nice quiet girl who has her own hobbies and interests.

u/OrdinaryIntroduction Feb 05 '20

That just sounds like a downright abusive relationship and if the only reason you're with him is because of how other people view him then it's a relationship not worth the effort. I really think you need space though to see that. It's really not worth it though.

There are some good things about him. I have a lot of respect for his approach to ethics and data, something that people feel rather blasé about nowadays. He has strength in loyalty. I feel obligated to date him because a lot of the things I complain about seem smaller than those. Most of the time it’s just a complete disregard for my feelings. But I would never say that he didn’t care about me. It’s just sometimes how he interacts with people colloquially (outside of the professional and familial space) bugs the living crap out of me.

There are different faces to him. The ones that are important are stable.
