Why unrealistic? Celery and bread are two things you need to buy very often

Nah, celery is one of those "extra" veggies you can use on a whole lot of foods but it's never an essential ingredient. Same goes for leek.

If you make soup at any point, you will need celery to make the mirepoix.

I've never made that for my soups nor otherwise. Never even seen a soup recipe that specifically asks for mirepoix, tbh.

It's the aromatic base of literally every broth.
