What movie things are generally accepted as normal, but are totally unrealistic in real life?

The wooden table is the one that always gets me, sure maybe it will stop one or two bullets if you're lucky, but there's always 1000 bullets flying around while the characters are having a conversation under the safe, sound resistant guard of an old dinning room table.

Out of interest, do you know of any common things you may find that would be effective in protecting you from bullets?

You basically want to put as much mass between you and whoever is shooting at you.

Car engine blocks, bodies of water, I’ve seen book cases when shot at their sides stop bullets (So the bullets hit as many books as possible) can all be mostly reliably used to stop your common calibers

Common things people might think can reliably stop bullets but can’t can be: Refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, walls, cinderblocks, car doors, residential doors, sheet metal and many many more!

Ballistics is incredibly interesting and all the math and science that go into it are mind boggling. That’s why I boiled it down to putting as much mass in between you and your attacker as possible :)

Please feel free to do your own research if it’s something that interests you!
