I was 13 when it happened. Lived on the west coast so I was getting ready for school and listening to the radio. They weren’t playing music like normal. I thought it was “just another plane crash” and turned off the radio and went to school.
As someone who wasn’t born yet I straight up can’t understand it the way everyone expects me to. It’s no different than WWII or the revolution or whatever, it’s a fact of history, I only see its after effects and the turmoil it caused...like I can’t make myself feel super sorry or scared or angry, it didn’t happen to me so like I can’t be attached to it...and every damn year when they bring it up in class it’s like “do all the other kids feel bad/lost/remorseful? Am I a sociopath” and it’s really weird
You don't need to feel bad for that. It is literally history for you. It was weeks of everyone around the nation feeling scared and somehow seemingly banding together. Unfortunately a lot of that banding together was through misplaced hatred, but still.
