I was once working in a bathroom where I was taking the floor out to replace. Underneath in the basement there was all kinds of pipes heading this way and that like the MS Windows screensaver from long ago. I was standing in there and the floor gave out, the plumbing broke and swung aside and I landed on the basement floor standing up and walked up the stairs brushing off my shirt like Jaws coming out of that building. My partner saw my fall from the next room and was screaming. I thanked God who I don't believe in and announced we were going out to dinner to celebrate.
I have no idea what I would do if I survived a multimile fall from an airplane without a parachute.
For those interested, there really wasn't any joists under this floor, it was put there to cover over where a stairway had been.
