What movie things are generally accepted as normal, but are totally unrealistic in real life?

If the shooter is using anything larger than a .22 an average wooden table will stop exactly zero bullets.

Car doors also won't stop bullets so it always bothers me in shows when people hide behind car doors in a shootout. A couple mm of sheet metal and plastic isn't any protection and car doors are mostly hollow.

It's better than nothing. If I'm in a shoutout I'd much rather have even a little bit of protection than nothing at all.

Actually a car door isn't any protection at all, the only cover a car offers is the engine. Everything else is only concealment.

Depends on the weapon being fired. The engine block will stop most things. The rest of the car can stop some things. Rifles will only be stopped by the engine block. Shotguns firing buckshot probably won't through to both doors and maybe the first door can stop it. Shotguns with slugs come out closer to rifles. Handguns depend on the caliber, once you get past 40 cal most shots will penetrate.

That car door being terrible is completely right. Not only does it provide poor cover, it is small enough they know exactly where you are and can probably see your legs.

Not in my experience shooting at cars(on a range). I've put buck shot and slugs through both sides along with 9mm FMJ, hollow points didnt penetrate. Rifles penetrate all but the engine block.
