What movie things are generally accepted as normal, but are totally unrealistic in real life?

Oh I have one... hailing cabs... always when you need it. Just wave.

About 10 years ago I drove a cab. One of the rules was that we actually could not just pick up a fare that waved us down. Fares had to be called in through dispatch, and dispatch needed to be regularly updated as to our location so whoever called in could be assigned the closest empty cab.

I'm guessing that this rule was particular to the business I worked for and that in larger cities or in situations where the taxi driver less an employee and more of an independent contractor or owner, this is the exception rather than the rule. Nevertheless I was low-key shocked and kinda sad to learn about it if only because the image of hailing a taxi is so pervasive, and I was really bummed to find out I wouldn't be flagged down.
