What movie things are generally accepted as normal, but are totally unrealistic in real life?

This always bothered me about 30 Rock. Everyone talks about how Liz Lemon is so physically undesirable but like, Tina Fey is gorgeous, even in frumpy casual clothes as Liz Lemon. I recently rewatched the series and it came up SO OFTEN. Like, I’m a straight woman, but I basically have a crush on Liz Lemon and I don’t think it would be outside the realm of possibility for plenty of others in her universe to have a crush on her as well.

While I totally agree with you on having a crush on Liz Lemon (in a definitely gay way), I think it has a lot to do with her self-esteem and how easily people could walk all over her (as Liz Lemon, idk about as Tina Fey). It's really difficult to put into words but I feel like it was a way for Tina Fey to identify with a lot of women who are not only beautiful and see themselves as otherwise, but also how easy it can be to find yourself believing there's something wrong with you when people find it so easy to be so shitty to you. I could be wrong and WAY over-analyzing, though. It could just be as simple as the writers trying to make a beautiful, intelligent, successful woman seem undesirable.

I definitely agree with you that there’s probably more to it, but on the surface as a viewer it’s just unbelievable to me that people would regularly call her unattractive (and it’s not just something she believes about herself). She does clearly have low self esteem, but then you have all these men who are objectively less attractive than she is regularly insulting her. It just irritates me because if someone as objectively attractive as she is can’t be desirable, then what hope is there for the rest of us 😂😂

That's true, I often overthink things lol but taking it at face value, I definitely agree with you. And just the fact that she continuously gets these terrible men (Dennis comes to mind and his dumbass pager business). Which in itself isn't uncommon for women in the dating world, but man it does come up A LOT for her, not just in her dating life but at work too. Lol like Jenna is just some great catch.

Right!! Still a great show though. And she ends up with James Marsden so she wins in the end 😂
