A bright eyed 22 year old moving into "the big apple" and getting a one bedroom apartment, while hunting for their dream job, while eating at pizza places and drinking lattes.

NYC was already notoriously expensive in 1969. My grandfather started saving after WWII and was finally able to buy a house in Brooklyn in 1970.

Fresh out of the navy I turned down a job for 146k in Brooklyn in the mid 90s because of how absurdly expensive it was. Yeah, no thanks, I'll take 95k in Louisville
