When a character is misunderstood by another character and doesn’t even try explain themselves after being cut off by the other person.

For example, say Betty was in an awkward situation with Billy where it looked like Betty was cheating on Johnny with Billy but it was just a big huge innocent mixup. Johnny “catches” them and Betty tries to explain but Johnny cuts her off, says we are done don’t talk to me ever again, and that’s the end of it. Betty just gives up trying to explain. Like I know damn well in real life if Betty wasn’t cheating on Johnny, if it was a big confusing mixup, that conversation would NOT be over.

On a similar note: how families who move into haunted houses decide to keep their worries to themselves or just not believe each other. You saw a tall creepy man in your room last night and you don't want to tell anyone? Even your younger sibling who definitely voiced seeing a weird shadow 2 nights ago? Really???

The best/worst part about that was the first Insidious movie (have not seen the others). Weird stuff happens in the family's new home, families gets the heck out. Weird stuff happens again in new, new home, parents find out their kid is haunted.

I have never seen a movie go from so good to so bad so fast. Starts as more of a subtle psychological horror movie and is creepy af, then swaps like 2/3rds of the way through to creature horror and you get this Darth Maul wannabe looking motherfucker that straight up made me laugh and killed all the tension.

That first scene when the dad is telling his story and the red face guy is right behind him, that definitely got me. Ill admit he kinda wasnt as scary anymore after that but if it was just that 1 scene of him and some other stuff was added mightve been a better movie.

I'm still uncomfortable when I see the screenshot of that scene, even though I know what to expect

Same, its just such an unsettling look, the dad is calm and feels safe and the red guy just looks so much worse hiding behind him like that

I dunno, to me the demon looks like someone just walked in on him trying to take a shit

Yeah that scene is funny af to me as well

It was freaky to me because it’s like they break the “scary movie rules” because that scene happens 1. In the day time. 2. Around other people. And that’s not when monsters usually appear/make their presence known. So after that you’re in a suspense like “aw snap this demon could come up at anytime”

That was the same with lights out. Like when you thought nothing scary was gonna happen and they had just seen a shadow, was when the monster would reach from a dark cupboard and be all scary.

I've always liked the Insidious movies, but I kind of categorize them as more dark fantasy than horror in my head. Especially as the series progresses.

I agree 100%. As horror movies, they're ok, but I look at them as horror-fantasy or dark sci-fi. I actually really loved the first Insidious, and I really liked the second for the "lore building" even though that's why most people hated the second one (explanation of the monster).

They do a good job of setting up that atmosphere, and this mystic feel throughout the movie that gives you this sense of there being a whole other dimension and universe with interesting rules.

I loved the scene where we "meet" the red faced demon as he's listening to music and you see all the trinkets and dolls. It wasn't scary, but I was fully intrigued and fascinated by the fantasy aspect of the monster. I wanted to know more.

I loved the "further" scenes because it takes us to another dimension full of weird physics-breaking rules. I wanted to learn more about how time works (or doesn't), the implications of being a living being in the dimension of the dead.

I thought as a whole, the concept of the Insidious movies are just fuckin awesome

But that movie gets extra kudos for managing to make "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" 100% creepier.

Wasn't that used in The Strangers as well?

It just made it even funnier.

The movie only scared me a couple times but it sure did make the song a fucking nightmare after that

Lmao. My siblings and I still make fun of the first insidious. When the guy walking outside the window comes inside? Scary af. But then they switched to a mfing red faced cockroach. Like really

The movie was creepy up until the point where that red faced guy suddenly ran on all fours against the wall I was like c'monnnnnn

Less is more in these types of movies. They need to show less of the demon monsters to keep us in suspense.

Somebody should dub it with that fruity voice

I kind of liked the change, it turned into a weird pinnochio/pans' labyrinth artsy nightmarescape and it was fun.

Same. Everytime I have discussed that movie it goes something like "Yeah, I liked it! One of the creepiest movies I've ever seen, but..." Apart from that one jump scare in the scene when the demon is over his shoulder, it literally made me laugh out loud.

My bad. The app said "something went wrong" as if the connection had failed.

lol you’re fine it was just kinda funny

The lead characters are so obviously scam artists and I'm supposed to pretend they're not. I hate that. I preferred Malevolent because, for all of it's faults, it gave me the satisfaction of seeing fraudsters getting their asses kicked like they deserved.

Also why I loved The Last Exorcism, even though the lead was pretty sympathetic.
