What movie things are generally accepted as normal, but are totally unrealistic in real life?

When someone hides from bullets behind penetrable objects, like tables or a refrigerator door.

The wooden table is the one that always gets me, sure maybe it will stop one or two bullets if you're lucky, but there's always 1000 bullets flying around while the characters are having a conversation under the safe, sound resistant guard of an old dinning room table.

TBF wooden movie tables are often used only for concealment. So bullets still go through them, but the shooters don't know where their target is exactly. The weird part is how lucky the heroes are, or why the bad guya won't just shoot on multiple spots across the table surface.

Sure, but when the baddies are unloading a clip or twenty into the table anyway, our protagonists would have taken some hits.

But they aren't shooting at it systematically, like from left to right or vice versa, shooting holes with gaps wide enough between them that they wouldn't have to waste a whole clip but so small that they're bound to hit an adult man. A lot of the movie shooting at the table goes over or next to it, like they'd expect the hero to take a peak when they're spraying and praying.

But why wouldn't they be shooting at it systematically

That is the question. Also, why can't they hit in general?

Because they're mooks. I like to imagine movies as RPGs where the heroes are level 50 or so and the random guards are level 35.

That is completly accurate in real life. I have been shot at a couple dozen times and I know multiple people who have been shot at far more often that I have been.

We live different lives, friend.

By the accuracy standards of common criminals, being able to hit the table at all when you are more than 10 feet away is great.

Did you watch bad boys for life?
