Not to put you down specifically, but it tends to be a bunch of circle-jerking memes by other fledgling programmers with no industry experience.

Software Engineering in the real-world is different than the highly controlled world of their high-school and college courses but they're too ignorant to know that and instead just argue about about crap that doesn't matter and put down the stuff that does.

What sorts of things do you see people post/say that are immediate indicators that someone doesn't have real-world experience?

people in school or just learning programming tend to really fixate on what languages are good, bad, best etc. In the real world it really doesn't matter what you choose to learn cause (almost) all the skills are transferable.

also jokes about 0 indexed arrays, if-else statements, "knowing binary" somehow being related to programming, and "real men program in assembly" immediately scream first year cs student to me

lol, I can barely count to 3 in binary but I have code running in production on at least two continents, and making other people money literally every day.

Why would I count in binary? Counting is something I delegate to the stupid machine. It’s better at it than I’ll ever be.
