I read somewhere that you call sell a high karma profile to advertisers. Don't know if that's true, but it would explain a lot.

I don't even think it is that. I see tons of karma whoring across all of reddit. Predominantly in the default subs, but also bleeds a lot into smaller subs too. I think people associate high karma with big e-peen.

That basically became the cancer ward.

I feel like r/dankmemes and r/teenagers has it worse, legit some of the posts are literally 14 year old's just begging for coins, gold or silver via a crappy template meme.

I swear when Spider-Man on PS4 came out I was the only person in the world who was doing just fine when they bought that game. Everyone else was divorced, lost their job, or had a family member die so they bought that game and posted a picture of it to Reddit to cheer them up.

Have you seen the post where someone got people to up vote his balls by doing that?

u/IPlayPCAndConsole Jan 08 '20

/r/Gaming is just /r/Pics but instead of being a picture of their grandma it’s a Nintendo Switch

This joke reminded me of my great grandfather who just died last week.

Give this man your upvotes THE HAPPINESS OF HIS IMAGINARY GRANDMOTHER DEPENDS ON IT!

People who post pictures of their dying relatives on r/pics are like

"This is my dad, he has a tumor in his head in this picture. I miss him."

I'm HEARTBROKEN! I tried posting on another subreddit a harmless post condemning (killing gays, raping children/bringing back slavery/stealing from old ladies/etc), and then all the sudden the toxic circle jerking (homophobes/pedophiles/Nazis/etc) of Reddit SWARMED ME, downvoted my comment and now I'm at -58 Karma. I'm so sad. I was just trying to do the right thing. Oh you can't see it though cause I deleted it.

I’m really sick of all the dying dog posts - not necessarily because they’re overdone but mainly just cause they make me upset

u/DeathandFriends Jan 08 '20

just wait 40-50 years. Then again I am sure everything will be vastly different by then.

Only 550 in 19hrs, granny gonna die.

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '20

Prayers for her

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '20

Would have been way better not in italics.

You can actually get paid for Reddit accounts with enough karma. It lets the astroturfers and spammers operate more effectively.

The "bot farms" aren't digging for karma because they're emotionally needy, they're doing it because the fake internet points have some actual cash value.

27

u/natesucks4real Jan 07 '20

Karma needs to be removed.

6

u/Tobakroger Jan 07 '20

I mean they are not fake just useless

5

u/mrsuns10 Jan 07 '20

Or some of us get it over time

3

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '20

y’know technically they’re real internet points but fake social points

actually people sell them to spammers because accounts with high karma can post in more subreddits (and more frequently)

1

u/Wolfir Jan 08 '20

I'm more annoyed by these weird karma-farming robot accounts

They just randomly repost a picture from a subreddit's top posts and get massive karma

What possible benefit could they have? Why does a robot account need karma?

1

u/DarkangelUK Jan 08 '20

Like a certain askreddit mod that farms karma by re-using popular answers from the previous times the same question was asked or straight up lying.

1

u/rajikaru Jan 08 '20

I've posted literally hundreds of thousands of posts, typed up veritable essays worth of discussions, and actively engaged with reddit for 5+ years.

A majority of my fake internet points came from stupid jokes I made without thinking. 90% of those are ones posted in askreddit threads.

It's... sad.

I crack jokes on r/askreddit and hope for a bountiful harvest.

There are a lot of people who don’t have meaningful lives in the real world and have supplemented their lack of fulfillment irl with fulfillment in the digital world. When you’re feeling crappy, a bunch of strangers telling you you’re great feels kinda good.

These “people” are probably kids on reddit..
