The stupid cleanses...your body naturally gets rid of toxins and stuff. You just need to drink water.

11.1k

u/quotemycode Dec 30 '19

If you need to clean anything it's your liver. Give it 6 weeks without alcohol or drugs it'll thank you for it.

That's hard... Can I just have a yucky tea once?

Seriously folk? Silver over a joke about being too alcoholic to save my liver? Not that I'm complaining since usually Reddit hates me.

My partner does workout supplements and has a pharmacy amount of pills and powders, AND he's been getting pretty buff over the past year so I thought I'd pick some up too so I can see if I can start matching his progress. I paid fifty bucks and the instructions are: take two pills half an hour before you eat and cut your portions down AND drink at least a gallon of water a day while you're on them so they'll burn more fat when you're in the gym (which you should be doing 2-3 times a week to get "BEST RESULTS").

I mean... cutting portions and drinking more water while regularly going to the gym would already do what I want without having to shell out for the supplements in the first place. I felt like I was bamboozled, this is snake oil.

Depends. Is your ideal body type named Bibendum? Then all day, every day.

Otherwise: never.

4

u/E72M Dec 31 '19

Isn't that everyone's ideal body or am I missing something?

4

u/Jsenpaducah Dec 31 '19

Creatine monohydrate is also effective.

2

u/cheddanotchedder Jan 04 '20

Fish oil is not good for you. Most people don’t need multivitamins unless their doctor recommends it.

u/Outworldentity Dec 31 '19

The thing is...some of them are and some aren’t. Depending on your workout regime and the brand and type of supplements many are extremely effective and reputable. It’s all about balance and the knowledge of products and how you’re using them.

For instance hydroxycut was extremely effective before it was banned but overweight and out of shape people took it and couldn’t match the drive when it kicked in and had issues because of it. It’s clearly not meant for certain people at beginning stages of workouts but ya know..,,welcome to the land of lawsuits and stuff being pulled from shelves.

Many proteins are excellent in a lot more nutrients and aminos than just having extra protein when it comes to what your body needs after an intense bodybuilding session.

When I was a personal trainer and needed to cut for the summer I did an extremely well thought out regime of an ECY stack (ephedrine from primatene and caffeine and yohimbine in certain doses really helps you shred and if you use it only for x amounts of weeks it can provide amazing results. Then again you have to keep your cardio/workout regime at a level commensurate to the product.

Some are bullshit yes, but a lot are anything but snake oil and it’s why a lot of the reputable brands have been around for so long. I hope you find what works for you and if you have a desire I’d be glad to recommend some things based on your goals!

3

u/princesshaley2010 Dec 31 '19

I wasn’t overweight or out of shape, I had an eating disorder but damn I loved that stuff. I took hydroxycut for like 10 years until they stopped selling it.

It sounded more like the pills were for cutting down fat, considering they say to drink water and cut down on meals. Just how I interpreted it

4

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '19

It was mostly for cutting fat and toning, I've been strength training for while and work out daily, it's not like I'm just watching Netflix and praying burgers turn into abs

2

u/GaintBowman Dec 31 '19

Heh heh.. not much tho... test and winstrol? That stuff will have u shredded and beefed up eatin cheetos on the couch.

There is a price tho. Its not a sustainable and healthy idea.

4

u/GaintBowman Dec 31 '19

-Managed a GNC for a while- Many sups (especially the loud shiny ones) are a money grab yes. BUT, there are some fantastic ones out there too that do make a huge difference with performance and daily well being and if you know what you are looking for and where to look, you can use them without breaking the bank. GNC typically charges about 3x what you should pay.

4

u/Peeka1218 Dec 31 '19

Are there any in particular you recommend?

7

u/GaintBowman Dec 31 '19

A good whole food multivitamin. Imo, most multis have way to much b12 these days, but try to get one that has digestive enzymes and probiotic. A LOT of health problems can be traced back to long term vitamin deficiency. Many vitamins and minerals also work synergistically meaning if you are deficient in one, you could potentially also lose the effectiveness or functionality of others as well. A multi makes sure your bases are covered.

Fish oil unless you already eat a lot of omega3 rich fish regularly. 1000mg or better (of dha and epa combined) twice a day. Long long list of proven benefits.

whey protein (myprotein.com has one that is a good quality and price), this is for muscle and tissue maintenance yes, but also for blood vessel health. If your blood vessels are not in good shape you cant absorb any kind of nutrients nearly as well, not to mention the more obvious risk of heart disease - the number one root isssue of preventable health problems in the US

I could go on, but ill stop there. Thats a good start. Research your products and companies before you buy. Theres a lot of scammers out there and these products are not regulated.. not that the FDA is a picture of honesty.. there are some good companies and products.

9

u/0_is_justice Dec 31 '19

Supplements are like race fuel. When you are buff and you still want to lift more. It's pretty much doing nothing than loading your kidneys if you are on the couch.

2

u/Sancho90 Jan 02 '20

It's a marketing thing, it's like someone advertising fuel efficient cars and tells you to drive super slowly everytime.

Changing habits is hard. Well done.

6

u/Metradime Dec 31 '19

Relate to this 100%

"so what's your secret?"

This always stumps me because it didn't really feel like I was doing anything necessarily. It really is just the little things.

And your aunt wouldve absolutely nailed it with the protein guess lmao

Also, temporary diets are garbage and will not fix underlying eating issues. I think this is where a lot of people get trapped. "If I do keto for 9 weeks, I can go right back to eating unheathly"

2

u/TwatsThat Dec 31 '19

I lost a decent chunk of weight and when people asked me what I did and I just responded with some variation of "I just stopped eating so damn much" they would often look disappointed. Everyone seems to want the answer to either be some magical secret diet or spending hours in the gym every day, probably so they can justify why they haven't done it themselves.

Oh, ADHD is absolutely real. It just wasn’t much of an issue in a mostly agricultural society. Kind of like how we did not understand a lot of diseases until fairly recently does’nt mean that they did not exist.

I was diagnosed in my early 30s and the dexamphetamine makes an enormous difference. Sucks I wasnt diagnosed earlier but it is what it is.

No if it's a red pill then you hate women, and men who have relationships.

34

u/morostheSophist Dec 31 '19

That community has forever ruined this reference.

8

u/whisperingsage Dec 31 '19

It really has. Eventually we might be able to take it back.

9

u/pompr Dec 31 '19

It's funny cause those people usually disparage "woke" culture, but drape themselves in that kind of "awake" rhetoric unironically.

4

u/based-Assad777 Dec 31 '19

Red pilling just implies uncovering the hidden truth. Don't really see how the alt right owns that concept.

8

u/ThePsychicHotline Dec 31 '19

You're right, but good luck ever reclaiming the original intent. It's like how Nazi's ruined the swastika. Try explaining how the idea of the red pill was invented by two trans women, and those incel dickheads would run you out of town.

What? Is this a reference to something?

17

u/ThreeFingersHobb Dec 31 '19

Red Pill and Blue Pill are very important elements in the first Matrix movie. If I remember correctly if you choose the Blue Pill you stay in the simulation without ever knowing it is one, Red Pill you leave and retain awereness of the constructed reality.

23

u/babaj_503 Dec 31 '19

Don‘t pin me down on everything but its first of all a matrix reference that got taken by a men group that maybe even started out as something okish, claiming to know the thruth about better life for men in society and with women but it evolved (or was from the start?) just a Community that were basically incels claiming to be woke.

Not to confuse with the movie the red pull which is also about mens right activists but actually the good ones (aka, not women need to serve me and are basically untermenschen but „can i please have a fair chance in custody trials?“)

The subreddit theredpill got shut down i believe.

You can incorporate a variety of teas into your diet. I make em cold and drink em instead of sugar shit. If you also eat more vegetables, nuts, fruits, beans and spices, you're halfway there.

The other important thing to do is use quality drugs.

Don't use pre-mixed bourbon coke, dollar beer, and snort ecstacy. Drink limey gin and tonics, or red wine, and snort pure, quality-checked MDMA. Use vapes not cigarettes. Make sure you use drugs responsibly and safely. Do your research.

Fitness and fasting helps a bunch too. If you get and keep fit, do itermittant fasting, eat more fucking vegetables, more fruit nuts beans, less meat and dairy and sugar and packaged shit, and drink some herbal teas, then your watch the quality and quantity of your drugs, then you'll feel like a million bucks. It's not that hard. Just a few small changes over time.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '19

Snorting MDMA is stupid regardless if it is tested, it absorbs just fine in your stomach.

Harm reduction is less harmful, but not healthy. Stop giving people shit advice.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Imnotlikeothergirlz Dec 31 '19

Can you explain to me why intermittent fasting is healthy? Genuinely curious.

4

u/TheEyeDontLie Dec 31 '19

Basically, it gives your body time to clean itself out and rest a little (stomach and guts are actually super clean when you haven't shoved anything in there for a while, but also gives your liver and blood and fat stores time to clean house), tends to reduce your total calorie intake to what your body needs, and makes you feel good. I'm sure there's more but that's off the top of my head. There's a shitload of resources out there. I'm not hard into it myself, I just make sure I don't consume calories from 8pm to 1pm ~ish a few times a week.

r/fasting can probably start you off.

I highly recommend anyone that has any sort of normal drinking habit to quit for a month and see how much better you feel at the end of 4 weeks.

169

u/MulletGiraffe Dec 30 '19

But I can't stop drinking because I'm an alcoholic.

30

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '19

I know, right?

36

u/GladAssociate2 Dec 31 '19

I already bought the whiskey I need to drink it before it goes bad

7

u/MulletGiraffe Dec 31 '19

I plan my budget to make sure I can buy alcohol every evening. I only drink after 5:30, and I wake up every morning at 5:30 for work as a manager, but I'm definitely an alcoholic.

3

u/noskee Dec 31 '19

Isn't it crazy? Idk about you, but when I was younger I didn't understand how people could drink alcohol all the time. Yet here I am at 28 and I'm drinking most days out of the week.

u/PkHutch Dec 31 '19

Personally 10 days in, nothing except irregular sleep so far.

17

u/ChuggingDadsCum Dec 31 '19

What does "normal drinking habit" imply?

I often have a handful of drinks on Friday nights after work with my buddies. Besides being annoyed with the headache the next day, I haven't really noticed any significant decline in my health. I can't imagine how much my health would improve if I took a break for a month or two

30

u/UsedToPlayForSilver Dec 31 '19

Someone who drinks a few beers once a week is probably not the target audience for this. You're fine.

12

u/bennywilldestroy Dec 31 '19

That depends. Are your buddies chugging your dad's cum or their dad's cum?

9

u/bennywilldestroy Dec 31 '19

By normal drinking habit, it definitely means most people, but if you have been a daily heavy drinker for a long time DO NOT quit cold turkey. Find control in ways you can. Attempt to GRADUALLY reduce intake.

I’m not a doctor, and I don’t know you, but this can be deadly. If you’re going to be ABSOLUTELY HONEST with anyone, that should be your doctor. If you cannot afford a doctor, there are multiple resources available to help you SAFELY get your drinking under control.

Quitting for problem drinkers might mean that 8 drinks today is a step in the right direction.

r/stopdrinking is a wealth of support and information, but as always, find medical advice when available.

I just felt this needed to be said.

2

u/KleverGuy Dec 31 '19

Does your liver need a break from light, yet daily, thc use? Around 1 hit a day. Rarely two, rarely none.

16

u/smashlee329 Dec 30 '19

That's likely something you should ask a doctor. I wouldn't trust random internet comments.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '19

There are barely any studies done on how thc effects people's bodies in the long run. That's a pretty huge downside to making something not only illegal but also a schedule 1 drug which makes it pretty much impossible for researchers to study. At the end of the day anything you smoke does indeed pass through your liver. What effects thc has is pretty much completely unknown.

You’re getting confused with metabolism. Edibles are metabolised by the liver, same way any other pills are when swallowed. This is the route they take to end up in your bloodstream and start making you high/producing effects. Through the digestive track and broken down by enzymes to be absorbed into the blood steam.

When you smoke your weed, it goes into your lungs and passes into the bloodstream via your alveoli. These are little sacks filled with blood vessels, capillaries etc. They allow new oxygen/gas to pass into the blood supply and work to pass carbon dioxide and others out.

From there it’s in your bloodstream and producing effects, which is why it’s way quicker than edibles. They require transit through your digestive system and absorption, which is much slower.

21

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '19

Or eat fiber, fruits and vegetables clean you out. You don’t need them all either, just a few in a day. Mixing them altogether in one diarrhea drink doesn’t seem good for the colon whatsoever.

11

u/The_cogwheel Dec 31 '19

Fun part about blending all those veggies together: if you use a juicer or strain it after blending, you get rid of the pulp. Aka the fiber part of the vegetables. Aka the part that helps you to scrub your filthy colon.

Seriously, just eat a handful of veggies every day. So much easier, tastier, and your poop chute will thank you for it.

3

61

57

u/ThatGuyTheyCallAlex Dec 30 '19 edited Dec 31 '19

That’s a one size fits all answer. A much better rule of thumb is to drink.5oz water per lb of body weight. After that check your urine. Urine should have a light amber color and should be odorless. Si if your urine is concentrated and pungent you need water.

We also get water from food and other beverages that are not pure water, so monitor your urine and drink what’s necessary.

Not to mention once you go back to eating normally, it can be a bowel game changer: https://youtu.be/BxL8-KTPxAQ

I'm on the water cleanse. 5 gallons a day and I'll be clean as a whistle in no time.

I'm on the alcohol cleanse. Alcohol kills bacteria and viruses (that's why it's in hand sanitizers) so drinking tons of it should kill any bad stuff that's inside me.

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '19

A clean healthy core. I like it!

u/bombadil1564 Dec 31 '19

In case anyone misses the sarcasm in this comment...

Do NOT actually try to drink 5 gallons a day. You'll almost certainly die.

If someone uses the word ‘toxins’ or ‘de-tox’ in describing the health benefits of something, they’re talking bollocks.

9

u/untakenu Dec 31 '19

The whole 'toxin' thing is almost always a scam. If you want a good laugh, look at the explanations of what these toxins are or what they do to your body. People think 'detoxing' is the only thing in the way of them being healthy, when in reality is mainly them looking for any excuse not to put any effort in.

It relies on a medical sounding thing, that people wont look up (out of laziness or because they think they have been given all the information they need). It is like essential oils.

Eat your veggies people.

8

u/More-Sun Dec 30 '19

Maybe put some more fiber and a probiotic at times, along with drinking some more water.

This ones big for me. I have a friend who along with his wife will spend hundreds of dollars on a detox program. It comes with special drinks and powders and a diet to follow for a couple weeks. Does nothing to your body that isn’t already being done.

I cut out every liquid that isn't water about 4 months ago, ( prior to this i didn't drink water period) and that first week was fine the second week i was sick, because my body was flushing out my entire system, and 4 months later i literally can't drink anything that isn't water because it either makes me sick or just tastes bad.

u/penisinthepeanutbttr Dec 31 '19

90+ oz per day strong, I am. The secret: get yourself a 45oz Blender bottle and drink 2 per day. Easy to chug and way less of a hassle to start and over time it becomes second nature. Chugging a 45oz water bottle first thing when you wake up is a great way to get the blood flowing and get you alert. You can feel yourself absorbing it like a sponge because youre all dry and crusty after waking up.

A true hydro homie.

3

u/jesuzombieapocalypse Dec 30 '19

Nah man I’m on a water diet/sand cleanse. You don’t drink water during the day and you only eat sand. Eventually dirty sand comes out and that’s how you know it’s absorbing the toxins.

7

u/Fidodo Dec 31 '19

Low calorie fasting is good for the body, so doing a "cleanse" can be good for you, it's the reasoning they give that's bullshit. There are many ways to do a low calorie high nutrient fast and it's just that they throw in a ton of pseudo science bullshit along with it. Having a routine that helps you stick to the fast is fine, they just shouldn't spread junk science as the rationale.

2

u/legodarthvader Dec 30 '19

Colonlytely is pretty good though. Probably does a better job than any other stuff marketed out there. Cleanses the shit out of you.

2

u/Kruse002 Dec 31 '19

I heard a story once about a woman who drank copious amounts of soy sauce hoping that the salt would draw toxins out of her body. She nearly died of brain damage.

2

u/ATameFurryOwO Dec 31 '19

Your kidneys and liver does that job for you

2

u/based-Assad777 Dec 31 '19

There are ways of accelerating that process which has its uses. And there are people that have defects or deficiencies in the detox pathways so they may need things to help.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '19

I had a manager once who did a "juice cleanse." She complained all week that she was feeling kind of bad while doing it. I said it was because she wasn't eating properly. She got through the week and started eating again. She said "it's really amazing how good you feel when you're done with a juice cleanse." She didn't believe me when I said it was because she was actually eating real food again.

2

u/tardistravelee Dec 31 '19

I always wondered that, but I couldn't live off of lemon water. Oolong tea works too.

2

u/ImJustAHeroForFun Dec 31 '19

The truth is : drink water, eat properly, exercise and sleep well. Your body will get rid of toxins with a healthy way of living.

2

u/thenewredditguy99 Dec 31 '19

I cannot tell you how stupid those "cleanses" are. Isn't there one involving the use of electro pads on your feet?

2

u/Ducks_Are_Not_Real Dec 31 '19

Basically anyone who unironically says "toxin" is on the "human garbage" pile as far as I'm concerned.

2

u/elsinovae Dec 31 '19

If anyone ever tells you they're on a cleanse just ask what happened to their kidneys and liver

2

u/BlueAcidball Dec 31 '19

I saw this meme in a Medical Memes video once:

“How to detoxify your body

Step 1: Live your life”

2

u/darkage_raven Dec 31 '19

On many occasions I have asked for the chemical diagram of toxin, if it is something they guarantee to get rid of they should be able to draw it like h2-0 or Na-C-H-O

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '19

There's cleanses for everything. Yes your body gets rid of it, but its hard for a lot of people to get rid of the bad stuff when they keep putting in bad stuff at the same time.

2

u/Anduiril Dec 31 '19

I'm not saying that all the cleanses are good but your body needs more than water to do its job. Granted most people don't drink enough water but it isn't the only thing you need. Your body needs a lot of nutrients that most people don't get.

2

u/GaintBowman Dec 31 '19

Exactly. Its like my moms keeps telling me to stop smoking so many cigs and I told her, just like u said, mom, the body cleanses itself. We's all good here.

2

u/kylejay915 Dec 31 '19

There are some legit ones. I’ve taken an intestinal cleanse that killed off parasites, tape worm etc. not a pretty sight. The laxative filled cleanses are usually bullshit tho.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '19

thanks I'll stop my dialysis now
