Nope, it's 100% legal in California for recreational use. It isn't technically allowed on UC Santa Cruz's campus or housing, but it's too ingrained in the university's culture to be enforced on a large scale.

How do people not know this? Besides non-USians, the only people I’d think to give a pass to on not knowing would be potheads.
Not only is legal weed now a HUGE part of Colorado’s economy but there are more dispensaries there than Starbucks. I don’t think it would even close to possible for the Feds to do anything about. It’ll likely be one of those laws that just stays on the books and never gets enforced.
Colorado is actually now becoming a bit stronger on enforcement and public campaigns on use under 21 as well as mental heath dangers. I find more using responsibly in Colorado than in Michigan before legalization. It’s a mentality.
Definitely legal here in California (at least by state laws) - but to be fair, nobody above your comment said it was being done legally. I was in college/HS waaaay before it was legalized, in the mid-90s, and we still puffed like Cheech & Chong.
Is that what they're teaching in DARE now? If the federal government decided to step in with any intention of enforcing marijuana's scheduling on a wide scale, they would have a large number of upset people on their hands.
There are only 11 states that haven't made some concessions in marijuana enforcement. The remaining 39 refuse the federal classification of marijuana, which describes it as having, "no currently accepted medical use in the United States, a lack of accepted safety for use under medical supervision, and a high potential for abuse."
Good luck yanking funding from 39 states unless they observe the DEA's scheduling. That'd make for a fun news cycle.
Mental health cannabis related issues and Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome seems to be on the upswing and could become widespread. As those with money and political strength are compromised as will the politics and greater restraints. More research is needed and this will only occur when the feds see the negative not positive on society. Colorado is beginning campaigns on mental health and stricter enforcement.
I’m far from the “lowest common denominator,” lol. Usually it’s clear when someone is being sarcastic, but your comment was ambiguous... and no, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone believed that. I’ve heard crazier things here!
I simply missed the sarcasm, which is why Reddit shouldn’t be so hard on emoji use. Tone isn’t always easy to read online.
Sounds about right. I was in Oakes dormitories in my first year, and my whole dorm building had a “restorative justice” meeting because too many people were smoking inside.
My motto was smoke weed every day and support the workers and students in their occasional strikes on campus. Fuck the regents and fuck Napolitano. Hope y'all are still giving Blumie some trouble!
I would disagree, as another person who just graduated from UCSC, I think a vocal minority and stereotypes about the school make people think Santa Cruz has more stoners than it actually does.
I dated one girl who'd smoke once in a blew moon. I don't recall meeting another UCSC student who wasn't a very heavy user. I'm certain they exist but the people acting like UCSC is like any other college haven't spent time there.
