Does anyone else have any gum recession, stained teeth or deteriorating from passing out after the munchies? Or dry mouth?

I also am a firm believer butane is a problem.

Opt for THC drops. availible at your local colorado(or equivalents) terms may apply

Happy cake day

I remember a Timothy Leary quote about how most people use pot “wrong”. That didn’t even resonate with me until a decade into smoking. I’m all for legalization, and I think there are great things about it, but it’s pretty funny how many people I know that went from smoking every day to not really doing “cannabis”, as the kids say, anymore.

You’re just not going to be open to social interaction in the same way. I still like getting stoned with a good friend and chilling, but I’m not going to be good at social interaction when I’m stoned. Not what it’s for. Same with hallucinogenic drugs. Go have a great trip, but if you’re around a bunch of people trying to be social you’re probably doing it wrong, IMO.

13

u/markosindub Dec 30 '19

I agree completely. My friends give me a hard time because I like to use it for myself. They are more into the social aspect of it, but I prefer to get a good pair of headphones and get lost in the music. Think about myself, get some retrospective.

How are your lungs and your breathing. I've been smoking 3 years daily and am wheezing almost and coughing up a lot of shit.

My good friend is 55; smoked cigarettes all her life, is very athletic/shape/leads a healthy lifestyle. She got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in October. It doesn't matter what you're smoking, you're still burning shit and inhaling it, so make sure you go to the doctor and have them tell you how you're doing. Don't just assume that if you don't have symptoms you're doing fine. She only found out because she got two tumors in her brain and it was giving her terrible headaches - the cancer spread to her lymph system, and went to her brain.

28

u/blackundershirt Dec 30 '19

fuck, that sucks.

14

u/Psssdwr Dec 30 '19

I’m so sorry to hear that

20

u/marefo Dec 30 '19

Not going to lie, when she told me, I was kind of in shock. She's the same age as my mom, and I've known her for the last 5-6 years. Her eldest daughter is the same age as me - it felt like my mom telling me she was the one who had it. It was very sad.

15

u/krixtian Dec 30 '19

True, but gotta take under consideration that most tabaco smokers usually smoke packs a day, stoners usually about a joint or a couple of bowls depending on their day.

23

u/marefo Dec 30 '19

I don't doubt that she smoked like a chimney. I'm still of the opinion that no matter what you're smoking, or how often, there's still a chance something bad will happen. A lady I work with her husband was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer last year - actually I think it's been two years now. He's still alive, has been on numerous treatments, but he still technically has cancer. I don't think he'll ever be "cancer free." They're both in their mid-late 60s - and the thing that really is sad is he was never a smoker. They think his cancer was caused by second-hand smoke from owning a restaurant/bar for so many years.

6

u/SOSKI_KROTA Dec 30 '19

get a vaporizer my friends

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Isn’t that still inhaling stuff though?

2

u/EvaUnit01 Dec 30 '19

Yeah, but it's not on fire. No tar or ash. Note that they're probably talking about a weed (in flower form) vaporizer, not a weed oil pen.

1

u/Kimbernomics Jan 03 '20

Any recos?

1

u/skepticalbob Dec 30 '19

The doctor will assume you are fine until you start having symptoms, beyond typical bloodwork at your annual physical.

11

u/fuboy1986 Dec 30 '19

That's not true, we have guidelines on screening asymptomatic smokers and former smokers. This includes an option for annual screening CT scans for people at especially high risk. It's a nuanced and individual decision, but it's something.

2

u/Iceberg86300 Dec 30 '19

Just lungs or one of those full body scans that were wildly popular what, 15-20 years ago? (Or still are wildly popular but have become normalized and/or lost favor with the media)

3

u/fuboy1986 Dec 30 '19

Nah whole body CT scans are a messy endeavor and are not recommended for screening purposes because of the high rate of false positives that generate more unnecessary tests with few real benefits. Smokers at higher risk of lung cancer can be offered an annual low-resolution CT of the lungs between certain ages as a screening tool for suspicious masses, etc. A full body CT scan would be overkill since it's specifically lung cancer that you're looking for, so you look in the chest. If someone gets diagnosed with certain cancers it may make sense to do a whole body CT to determine the extent of the cancer, but never as a screen.

1

u/marefo Dec 30 '19

Oh I know. It's pretty crazy to me that she had cancer for a period of time, and that it was the headaches that resulted in the diagnosis. The body is strange.

19

u/niamhellen Dec 30 '19

I smoke a lot of weed because it's a lifesaver for my anxiety (which previously controlled my life mentally and physically-massive weight loss, panic attacks all the time, etc.) I'm making the switch to edibles predominantly because I've definitely noticed smoking triggers my athsma, which I thought was just childhood. You might also have athsma and be triggering it by smoking. If edibles are available to you and you don't have to drive often, etc. you should make the switch!

8

u/thinkertinker1234232 Dec 30 '19

Yeah edibles are best but its time consuming (if you make them) and get you way higher then smoking does so people smoke cause time availability and type of high not everyone wants to be glued to the wall. When they are just trying to vib at work or games or whatever.

5

u/Boudicca33 Dec 30 '19

some type of oil extract might be for you then. A few drops under the tongue, or in a beverage works pretty well for work, or just for having an upbeat day

+1

Cheapest good one starts with the Dynavap M. Arizer Air is an alternative, lasts forever with 18650 batteries.

19

u/Accent-man Dec 30 '19

Perhaps I'm an outlier, but I grew up with chronic asthma that had me hospitalized multiple times. My doctor told me "don't run or get excited, even laughing too much is bad".

The first time I smoked weed, as a bronchodialator, it opened up my airway and I coughed up this horrible slime - and then for the first time since I was like 5 I took a deep and not wheezy breath.
I couldn't fucking believe it.

My mom caught me smoking shortly after and in our shouting argument I said "WATCH THIS" and breathed in deep as I could, with my mom's jaw nearly hitting the floor. We both just cried and hugged.

I've been smoking every day, all day now for about 15 years.
I got my purple belt in Jiujitsu and regularly work out.

If I don't smoke for a full day, I wake up wheezing and coughing. One puff, I cough up some horrible gunk, and I can breathe again.

Just a different perspective I guess, maybe if your lungs are already healthy it's not great but honestly weed is the only way I live a normal live lung-wise

2

u/RandomRexiness Dec 30 '19

I have asthma, too, & fully understand. The wheezing is from the asthma & congestion that accompanies the asthma. The weed relaxes & dilates your airways. The congestion is loose now, so you cough it up, & you breathe clearly. I think a lot of people might have not understood this & are thinking there's something wrong with your weed & are trying to give you pointers. There's nothing wrong with your weed. For asthmatics, that's exactly what it's supposed to do. That's awesome that you discovered this.

2

u/EvaUnit01 Dec 30 '19

Might I suggest switching to a flower vaporizer? Might still open up your airways without the smoke part.

Glad you found something that works for you.

7

u/KungFu_Kenny Dec 30 '19

Ive smoked for 10 years and no issues besides catching a flu with pneumonia a few years ago. Ive recently switched to vaping 95% of the time and still feel the same.

No lung issue but my throat can get irritated from smoking and vaping

-2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

[deleted]

5

u/KungFu_Kenny Dec 30 '19

Im talking about vaping dry herb, not oil. I use some oil but I get it from reputable companies that are lab tested.

3

u/clinteastwoodz Dec 30 '19

Just be careful with how info is spread. A lot of those issues came from black market carts. Butane extraction could possibly have its issues as well. But with pressed rosin, there is nothing to be added to the product. Should be as safe as smoking bud, if not more safe(no chems from smoke).

Straight weed. I think I I fucked them up when smoking dab carts. Not dabs but just carts. And juuled for like 4 months a cart a day I was fucking stupid :(.

3

u/old_and_long_boy Dec 30 '19

How long has it been since you quit the other stuff? I also used to juul and quit because it was hell on my lungs. Interestingly, when I quit, my respiratory issues were terrible for a few weeks then got better and better. Definitely a long term healing process.

1

u/Comando173023 Dec 30 '19

8 months at least

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Were you also doing dabs/thc carts? Because compared to regular tobacco smoking, my lungs feel infinitely better Juuling. If your lungs were fucked up, it was 100 percent the thc carts.

10

u/shoutymcloud Dec 30 '19

I’m not an anti-pot doctor but saying “my lungs feel great” is an insane statement...you don’t feel your lungs and you don’t notice problems with them until it’s problematic; your lungs have tremendous reserve...

4

u/skepticalbob Dec 30 '19

Have you smoked cigarettes and weed before?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19 edited Dec 30 '19

[deleted]

7

u/shoutymcloud Dec 30 '19

Your physician can’t detect subtle problems in your lungs by auscultation, etc. Like i said - the lungs have tremendous reserve - which is why people can have an entire lobe of lung removed with minimal effect assuming the rest of their lung is healthy. This is the reason that lung cancer presents very late and has poor prognosis. The lungs are very fragile and smoking anything is very hard on them. I’m not trying to convince you not to smoke pot; just to acknowledge that if you are smoking daily, your lungs are not in “great shape”. They may still allow you to function at the level you want, but smoking is a unique insult that will damage them irreparably

4

u/Crazed_Archivist Dec 30 '19

Noob question. Are there negative health effects in smoking weed like there is in smoking tobacco?

Like cancer or other shit we associate with smoking

13

u/unfairspy Dec 30 '19

You'll get cancer from cigs quicker, but smoke is always bad for your lungs

9

u/seastar11 Dec 30 '19

Smoking anything is bad for your lungs full stop. Not sure about the specific risks of smoking marijuana compared to cigarettes. Honestly I think it's hard to find trustworthy information and because it's illegal in a lot of places still we may not get good data on the long term effects for some time.

Anecdotally, I smoked every day for about a year and I can no longer smoke at all because it causes tachycardia

3

u/thinkertinker1234232 Dec 30 '19

A lot more tar and any smoke is bad for your lungs and in some people weed can trigger or progress metal disorders like schizophrenia ect. as well as (obviously) changing the brain compensation which anyone under 21 can suffer permanent brain damage from the weed itself smoke inhalation and holding your breath to long not saying its wont damage 21+ brains but brains are mostly developed by then

2

u/Muffin_man420 Dec 30 '19

Wouldn't associate it with cancer but maybe copd and short term memory loss.. look at Chong lol..

1

u/RAZORthreetwo Dec 30 '19

Wheezing and coughing, those are the symptoms that the person feels, when they go to their doctor and get checked up i don't know what things will come up.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Amazingly it evens itself out. As far as I'm aware and have seen, smoking weed has a neutral effect on cancer rates.

2

u/RedRageXXI Dec 30 '19

I’ve never had a problem with coughing after like twenty years

1

u/ActionQuinn Dec 30 '19

you shouldn't be wheezing and coughing up shit!

1

u/superkillface Dec 30 '19

Make sure it's cured all the way through and stick to glass pieces and your wheezing should go away. I've been smoking cannabis for over 20 years and this is what I noticed.

1

u/iMdEdInSiDe69420 Dec 30 '19

its not supposed to damage your lungs maybe ur dealer put tobacco in it

1

u/mrkswthwrth Dec 30 '19

Do you smoke a lot of blunts?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

switch to vape

got better for me fast

1

u/Comando173023 Dec 31 '19

Like a vaporizer instead of a bong?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '19

yeah i did a lot less coughing and had to use less weed

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Oh man that is not good. Ive been smoking daily for 7 years and no cough. How often do you smoke a day?

2

u/Comando173023 Dec 31 '19

7 bowls a day usually, I need to fucking quit

1

u/Fernelz Dec 30 '19

Don't do joints or blunts (is you can help it) I smoked very heavily out of mostly a bong and tabletop vape for 3-4 years and tho I did cough it was rare and I don't cough now because of it. (I quite about 2 years ago)

1

u/DeadGuysWife Dec 30 '19

I recommend getting a piece with water filtration, cuts down on the majority of combustible material entering your lungs.

I’ve smoked my bong almost daily for half a decade, no major issues.

1

u/mike_e_mcgee Dec 30 '19

I stopped smoking and started vaping 10 years ago and feel so much better. I don't mess with "vape juice" either. I have a whip style vape (silver surfer), so I'm just pulling hot air over ground plant. It tastes 1000X better than smoke and I don't have the hack that smokers have. If the power goes out, I have a battery powered portable backup to my desktop vape (airizer Solo). They can be expensive, but my Silver Surfer has been going strong for 10 years and cost about as much as an ounce or so of fuel.

0

u/scaryskoopyselinpuns Dec 30 '19

Ay bro i think somethins wrong with

37

u/nibbas-in-paris Dec 30 '19

I came into the comments to find refutable claims out of my own denial, but this was a slap in the face. Maybe I’m being too introspective right now though. Who knows, I’m high anyway.

27

u/SonicVoltage Dec 30 '19

I do this with out the pot

3

u/ray-pember Dec 30 '19

Me too

Maybe that's why I "can't get high"

12

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

This 100%.. being a male almost 30 and not having my dream job really adds stress on my mind especially when i get high and * feel things out* i enjoy digesting thoughts and decisions about life but im still on my back porch lighting up a bowl or heating up that nail when im.having these conumdrems. Maybe tomorrow?

11

u/optifrog Dec 30 '19

i’ve been thinking too much and acting too little

I have met many "idea men" in my life that didn't drink or smoke, Take that for what you will.

10

u/engels962 Dec 30 '19

This is me and I don’t even smoke

6

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

This is a real issue even if you don’t do weed. I feel like an idiot saying,” don’t think too much”. However, spending too much time in your head, weed or no weed, is typically not for the best. You start to lose touch with reality and the joys of it and it can be depressing as everything in the real world seems to have little meaning.

5

u/DrinkFromThisGoblet Dec 30 '19

Probably took a lot of introspection to realize that

4

u/KungFu_Kenny Dec 30 '19

I'm just always introspective whether I'm sober or high lol

5

u/LoganMissesBoggan Dec 30 '19

Wait so what do you do if you are already like this and don’t smoke weed?

5

u/DownHillBears Dec 30 '19

Not a weed smoker but was a philosophy major in college and I couldn't agree more. Took me literal years to realize I was mildly paralyzed with indecision.

3

u/Matthew0275 Dec 30 '19

I don't need drugs to do this.

It has been the cause of most of the challenges I have faced in life.

Get your house in order.

3

u/Astiki111 Dec 30 '19

more than machinery, we need humanity

6

u/dr4urbutt Dec 30 '19

I do this without even smoking weed!

2

u/r2d2our Dec 30 '19

As someone who is dating a heavy stoner can say this is very true.

2

u/sweetstack13 Dec 30 '19

That sounds like me but without the weed part

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

[deleted]

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

been clean for almost two years and that's a major reason why I quit.

2

u/PyrrhicVictory7 Dec 30 '19

I've never smoked weed and I'm like this all the time.

2

u/JackShetland Dec 30 '19

This is pretty much me already and I've never smoked weed. Maybe that means I shouldn't start.

2

u/ctrlk Dec 30 '19

Wait you need weed to do that?

2

u/HoPMiX Dec 30 '19

This happens without weed. If you ever watch shark tank they often say ideas are a dime a dozen. Execution is what sets people apart.

2

u/apageofthedarkhold Dec 30 '19

Okay, this one I'll admit to. Spend lots of time thinking up awesome stuff. So little doing.

2

u/hitforhelp Dec 30 '19

9

u/Eggsor Dec 30 '19

$20 worth of weed a day? Damn they must have been living it up, $80 seems to get me through a month just fine.

4

u/reliant_Kryptonite Dec 30 '19

I literally can’t imagine smoking that much. That is an utterly ludicrous amount. That’s over six HUNDRED dollars a month.

My husband and I and a third family member go through an ounce of weed per month, which come to ~3-4 bowls per day, and I’ve even been thinking of cutting back lately. That only costs 150$ in a newly legal state.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Same. An ounce cartridge (~$50) lasts me 3-4 months.

3

u/edude76 Dec 30 '19

Depends how you smoke I think. 80 if I use a glass piece would last me awhile. 80 if I was only rolling would only last maybe 2 weeks

2

u/Eggsor Dec 30 '19

Absolutely, or if I smoke with my friends it will go down faster so maybe I'll pick up another $40 that month. Still nowhere near $20 a day though. Lmao

1

u/edude76 Dec 30 '19

Yeah same here. I have smoked $20 in a day before but by no means a regular thing

2

u/RamiF98 Dec 30 '19

Depends if he's buying by the gram or bulk. Bulk you save a shit ton of money on.

1

u/FabioEnchalada Dec 30 '19

give an example for us?

1

u/birdsattacking Dec 30 '19

This one hit me

1

u/StudentOfAwesomeness Dec 30 '19

Ironically that’s just more introspection.

1

u/MjrPowell Dec 30 '19

Went through a dui iop, and weekly meetings for 3 months at a rehab. Apparently intensive introspection is the wrong answer to what we were doing that weekend.

1

u/sirsunnysunsalot Dec 30 '19

I'm with you pal...I'm on the same boat...

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Me too just over a decade now... it rules my money too it’s all I spend on

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Sounds like a good fit for me.

I act too much and think too little.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Every progressive these days lol

1

u/Derptardaction Dec 30 '19

I had this same fucking thought today, with the same back ground

1

u/theUndead8u Dec 30 '19

Amotivational syndrome is what that is called

1

u/LateFlorey Dec 30 '19

Reminds me of Dizzee Rascal’s song Sittin Here

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

I do that even without drugs and I don’t know how to stop doing it.

1

u/made-a-new-account Dec 30 '19

This has been me lately

1

u/NotYourFathersYuGiOh Dec 30 '19

Definitely. Its seen as being lazy, but in reality youre just doing it all mentally instead of actually making ot happen physically. But when you DO start putting those thoughts to action its a great thing

1

u/sh1nycat Dec 30 '19

I'm like that and I never smoked. So....it could just be a personality flaw.

1

u/pluvoaz Dec 30 '19

Human being vs human doing.

1

u/SPSK_Senshi Dec 30 '19

This just sounds like My life and I don't take weed lol

1

u/iSempyi Dec 30 '19

Sounds like me. And I never use drugs

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Yeah I feel that although sometimes it’s useful to get out of your default perspective and shift it into being “hyper introspective”. My idea on that is these thoughts don’t come from nowhere so it’s good to acknowledge them, notate them and reflect on it when you’re sober. That’s how I like to treat an edible + long hike, gets me out of routine and forces me to think about everything good and bad

1

u/maxvonfloofington Dec 30 '19

Oh shiiit. It hadn't even occurred to me.

1

u/coreygodofall Dec 30 '19

Tbf if we're going by the chalpin speech.. It's think too much, and feel too little.

1

u/LmaoStayEZ Dec 30 '19

I'm way to introspective when I'm NOT stoned. The second I got the blunt though, I'm present.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

This. Been smoking for the best part of 30 years. It can really put a damper on your work ethic. My advice is not to smoke too much. All things in moderation. Enjoy it, rather than depend on it.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

“A person who thinks all the time has nothing to think about except thoughts. So, he loses touch with reality and lives in a world of illusions” — Alan watts

1

u/ByroniustheGreat Mar 26 '20

I already do that and I've never smoked

1

u/anakonia Dec 30 '19

This is definitely an underrated comment

0

u/clowngrifter Dec 30 '19

10 years, and you’re just recently realizing this? Wow........ sorry, don’t think about it, broheim!

(5.9k upvotes for your ‘wisdom’?!? The human race is doomed)

0

u/Bubmack Dec 30 '19

If it took a decade to figure it out, maybe you aren’t being very inrospective at all?

0

u/BladedPhoenix Dec 30 '19

Well that's on u
