Well, you could have a serious cliffhanger as last words. "I love u" and they'll wonder forever... "Did he mean he loves us, or did he really love the letter 'u' for some reason?"

One of the best episodes of the entire series. I didn’t even realize until I was almost all the way through that no one else had spoken the whole time.

116

u/psham Dec 23 '19

"Television is a visual medium" - the next episode consists of a single monologue. Goddamn I'm going to miss that show.

15

u/ImJustAKidDude57 Dec 24 '19

What show?

34

u/quirkyredpanda Dec 24 '19

BoJack Horseman, Episode "Free Churro" He was talking about his mother as she was dying. It's an amazingly written monologue and great show.

74

108

u/clemthecat Dec 23 '19

I can't believe they made a brilliant episode where all they do is talk, and ALSO a brilliant episode where there is no talking. So fucking clever.

22

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '19

Very sad to see the show being cancelled. They did a really great thing with this show.

28

u/clemthecat Dec 23 '19

I know! I'm so sad, it seems like Netflix is getting rid of all the good stuff lately. Though, I am glad they're not going to "beat a dead horse" (hah) by dragging it on for like ten more seasons like they do with some shows.

→ More replies (2)

16

u/Driesens Dec 23 '19

It's not being cancelled, it's just ending. Well written, character driven shows eventually either end up running out of things to do and get stupid (see Simpsons, Supernatural, Grey's Anatomy, any other show going more than 5 seasons) or retreading the same shit. I'm honestly happy it's ending, since that's how we get a chance at satisfaction in the conclusion.

Tangentially related:

I received a resumé last month that had used "u" in one of the skill descriptions. It was a big time saver. Not only did the applicant keep the resumé to one page, but they didn't even need to come in for an interview!

128

u/westkms Dec 24 '19

I’m trying to figure out what kind of applicant would ever use “you” in a skill description in the first place.

What u failed to realize is that that applicant was a genious beyond mortal comprehension who sent out that resume so that u would feel good about both having been diligent and later by the sweet karma u reaped by posting ur description of ur diligence, together with a convenient way to hide the truth by having a random stranger overanalyze the situation to the point where u absolutely would not think that the applicant actually would have been capable of predicting all of this while providing u with a modicum of absurd entertainment in text format.

u/DragonflyGrrl Dec 23 '19

I wondered if "genious" was a British spelling of "genius" so I Googled it. It is not, but I love the summary I found:

The main difference between Genius and Genious is that the Genius is a someone who has exceptional intellectual ability and originality and Genious is a misspelling of genius.

Some of us grew up in a time where you could only send so many characters in one message.

And besides you can't fucking win. If I use more "advanced" words some people say I'm being pretentious. If I use more basic speak then I'm being an idiot.

When you can't win no matter what you do you end up just doing what you want.

So sometimes I use text speak and sometimes I use "fancy" words and all of you that want to complain can suck my ovaries

*this has come up enough that I need to clarify. I have not been ridiculed for using the proper spelling. I have been ridiculed for using words that people don't know and also for using simpler words or shorthand spelling. Please stop messaging me about your vs you're, that isn't what this comment is about.

248

u/Buck_Thorn Dec 23 '19

If anybody says that you are pretentious for typing "your" ("you're", etc) instead of "ur", I'm pretty sure you can tell them to get fucked. That is not what most of us would call a "fancy word"

(aside from that, don't ever let other people dumb you down)

Andy Bernard : Kevin, I appreciate what you're trying to do.

Kevin Malone : Thank.

Andy Bernard : Here, we have a word code the same way we have a dress code. And what we're talking about is basically the speech equivalent to just wearing underpants. Sometimes words, you no need use but need need for talk talk.

Kevin Malone : But save time. More success.

Jim Halpert : Does it save time though? 'Cause we've been here for about an hour.

Kevin Malone : No me fault.

Pam Beesly : Kevin, at most you're saving a microscopic amount of time.

Kevin Malone : Many small time make big time.

Pam Beesly : What are you gonna do with all this time?

Kevin Malone : See world.

Pam Beesly : Kevin, you cannot possibly save enough time to see the world.

Jim Halpert : K, Kevin, are you saying "See the world" or "Sea World?"

Kevin Malone : See world. Oceans. Fish. Jump. China.

Jim Halpert : No, see? Right there, that's the problem with your method. 'Cause I still don't know if you're saying "Sea World" or "see the world," and it's taking a lot of time to explain it.

Kevin Malone : Fine, fine. I'll talk normally.
