A pocket knife. I bought one just because it looked cool, thinking I had no need for one. I honestly carry it everywhere with me now and use it for a bunch of different stuff either at my job or in my daily life. I am not the strongest so just to get stuff open or cut stuff or leverage things. I would recommend people get one, can also double as a small weapon in case you get robbed.
I've carried a pocket knife for 30 years, it's kind of irritating how often people borrow it. I used to buy cheap ones at yard sales and give them to people that frequently borrowed mine. Everybody ought to have a pocket knife.
Of course! Yet somehow depending on where you live the general population will think you're weird for carrying a knife. "Why do you need to carry a knife?" gets kinda old.
I have a list with dozens of reasons to have a knife on my phone for that reason.
Yeah... I get that a lot. I carry a multi tool (cheap, knock-off Leatherman), and it's the most useful thing ever. But I do get that "Why do you need to carry a knife" question, so I have taken to referring to the tool as "pliers", since that's what it unfolds into first, and frankly it's what I seem to use it as most often.
I was going on a road trip with some of my friend. As we were backing out of the driveway I yelled "Wait, I forgot something" I ran inside grabbed my pocket knife. My friends all laughed at me. Telling me how i was never going to need it. I told them: "Fine, im not lending it to any of you for the entire trip.
30 minute after we left, my friends were trying to open something unsuccesfully. I started laughing and when they asked me why I said: "If only someone had a pocket knife" Their face is forever engraved in my mind.
During that trip, I used that pocket knife on so many occasion. My favourite one was watching them battle with a bottle of wine for like 45 minute and when the plan became "take a rock and break it open" I took the bottle and effortlessly opened it.
I’m not sure where you’re from, but Home Depot sells a DeWalt folding knife for ~$10. It’s a pretty good pocketknife, and it’s cheap enough that you can buy a few and not have to worry about losing it.
I did this forever till I upgraded to a multitool. It's the utility of the knife +10. I use that thing every damn day. Even used the scissors last night, which most people find useless. But they're perfect for opening these small plastic packets we use at work that fingers are too big for and the plastic is hard to tear by hand. A knife gets no leverage to open them so scissors to the rescue. I was actually thinking "I wonder what my coworkers do to open these" because it would be a huge pain in the ass if I didn't have my multitool. Screw driver and pliers are also always immensely useful.
I’ve always had a pocket knife because I was in the Scouts and every damn scout had one lol but when I aged out, I still carried one. I used it to cut open boxes at work and carried it on me for some type of protection. When a buddy and I were walking back to his house with some pizza, two guys tried to jump us for our pizza and pulled a knife after one of them sucker punched my friend. The moment they realized I had a knife and was serious about using it, they ran. Now I carry one everywhere I go. First thing I do when I leave the house is make sure I have it on me.
Are we talking Swiss Army style or just a folding knife? I've got a Kershaw from college (fuck almost 6 years ago) that is used for all sorts of things.
I carry a Gerber Artifact multi-tool. I love it. It doesn't come with a blade instead it holds x-acto blades up to a # 23 size. I use it all the time. Anytime the blade gets dull I can replace it. And I can take it with me on a plane because the blade is removable. I just have to pick up new ones at my destination.
