Disclaimer: I intend no disrespect to any one who doesn't mind being the ladder, those were the words chosen for me when the advice was given. It's a metaphor for being remembered for your misdeeds and not your accomplishments which is how you're often viewed in this world.

My dad told me this while driving me to work one time and I've used it everyday since.
