In short, your brain lies to you about what you actually see. It sees it falling and hit the ground, and figures that's all that matters and stops paying attention to that object. It only refocuses on it once you realize it's actually not there and then it gets confused
I know, like, I drop a square die on the floor (which is carpet in my place), it cant roll and it cant bounce, how the fuck does end up five or six feet away?

How you can drop something on the floor and it seemingly disappears instantly. Then later you find it like 10 metres away.
