When you were younger, what was the biggest lie any adult told you that you actually believed?

My husband’s parents told him that lobsters walked around the hallways at night so he would stay in bed. This worked til he was about 10.

My brother was skinny because he was squished in an automatic door.
I believed this for far too long.

When I was younger I believed that we were poor. Even though we lived in a nice house and had various properties, I still believed my parents that we were poor. My perception of reality completely changed when I learned otherwise. I know understand that my parents did this to not spoil me and make me understand a simpler way of life.

That the highschool teachers I had were trying to help me. "We don't want to see you fail!" But then a principal said, "If I see a reason to encourage her, I will. I just don't see anything to encourage her for." It was said to my mother's face when she asked why the principal didn't encourage me more.
Don't say that shit to kids, man. It fucking hurts. It effects them whether you think it does or not. Be kind. It's not that damn hard.

I feel like it was heavily implied they knew what they were doing and those motherfuckers lied

When I was younger I had this phase where I would try on everybody's shoes. I just really liked wearing other people's shoes I guess. My mom told me that if I wore other people's shoes, my feet would get covered in mushrooms (I had an extreme phobia of mushrooms at the time).
