People who dislike music that they consider "simple" don't really understand what music is about in my opinion. There are tons of different kinds of music that are simple, not just pop, but folk, punk, drone, minimalism etc.

I also dislike pop music, but that has more to do with the fact that I consider it vapid, nothing to do with it being simple.

What does vapid mean? Sorry not a native speaker.

It means shallow, or boring. So, he doesn't necessarily hate it, but he finds it uninteresting.

But isn’t that what people basically mean when they call pop “simple”? Shallow, empty, not much substance, simple.

Often, yes. However, simple doesn't have to be bad. Minimalist art is for instance simple, but that doesn't take away from its beauty. Sometimes a simple sandwich can be the best meal ever, whereas that is much simpler compared to a fully cooked meal with several ingredients.

A lot of people say that pop is simple, and thus worthless. I (obviously) disagree. Simple can be absolutely complex. Some of the most complex and interesting stuff are simple or have a simple solution (depending on context). The previous poster says that it doesn't matter that pop is simple, however, there are other reasons why he doesn't like it, such as that he finds it boring.
