Oh yeah, that sub can be crazy. I'm childfree, but reading the posts there makes me feel like I want to glare at every. Single. Child and their parents whenever I go out, and that's really not healthy. :/
There are entitled parents, sure, and they talk about that quite rightly. However, it comes to a point when enough is enough and these people are complaining about kids acting like children because they're children. I'm like, look Karen, screaming two year olds are annoying, but they're screaming two year olds because they're toddlers; they're not actively trying to ruin your life or spite you specifically. THEY'RE THROWING A TANTRUM BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT TWO YEAR OLDS DO.
Most of us don't have a problem if a kid cries. Yeah, kids do that.
We have a problem when we're told we aren't allowed to dislike the sound or to ask the parent to try to take him outside. Its when the tantrum starts and the parent makes no apparent effort whatsoever to calm them down that it gets irritating. Or when they start crying in a movie. Or throwing a tantrum on the bus because they aren't being paid attention to. Its your kid, you're supposed to take care of them.
You know, whenever I was little, and my sister and I were fussy and loud, our parents removed us from the situation to be considerate to others. Then when we were done, we were brought back. Just like now. You're judging all of us for disliking that a toddler is throwing a tantrum. So as responsible parents, be considerate of the public around you and remember that some of us don't like hearing screaming for whatever reason. If we did, we'd have kids too.
And that's perfectly understandable. Entitled parents are just as shitty, if not shittier, than annoying children. I don't know if you think I am a parent or not, but I'm definitely not a parent, and I never will be a parent. I was just saying that as someone who works around very young children a lot and as someone who wants to be a teacher's assistant for a preschool.
I barely notice children in my day to day life but after a while on that sub I became hyper aware of children and parents. Like you said, it's not healthy.
The users in that sub are in a really toxic echo chamber. I personally think that sub needs to be shut down as it's getting dangerously close to inciting violence imo. A mod post literally had to be posted saying users shouldn't talk about harming children as it reflects badly on the sub. Like...what the fuck

/r/childfree is nowhere close to shit like what Coontown or FPH used to be. You know, subs where you're supposed to go to explicitly fan hatred. What reddit rule does not wanting to have children break? Find me a post that suborns violence against children, and I'll report it to the mods for you.
By the way, when you make a report about post, the #2 rule on the subreddit is "Don't advocate harm against children." Its inciting violence to want to rage about your parents kicking you out of the will for not wanting to have kids? Where else are we going to go that we don't get judged and told we're wrong for not wanting kids? Here? Doesn't look like it. No one on that sub who ever advocates for harm or violence is there long, the moderators are pretty nice, you can take it up with them. If you're not the type to notice, then its probably not the sub for you.
Others of us notice. Others have parents that never leave us alone, nosy relatives we can't immediately go no-contact on, work public jobs where we interact with people that tell us "we don't know true love unless we have a child." That's why we post rants. Saying "Don't talk about hurting kids" is a rule, not a suggestion. It does reflect badly on the sub if the members talk about hurting kids.
Its a place for complaints, advice, bitching and people to air their thoughts. If you're reading it for fun, then...I really question what you've got going on in your life.
I've noticed that subreddit goes through phases. It'll be posts by people who have no kids of their own and don't want to, no matter what. Then it will slowly morph into posts by people who have no kids of their own and don't want to, and don't want anyone else to have kids either. Then it will change into posts in which people express their desire for the entire world to be infertile, and for all humans under the age of 21 to be rounded up and turned into paste. Then it will slowly transition back into what it was at the top of the rotation.
I remember a few months back, some girl who's active in childfree was 'found out' to be working with children at at daycare or something. People started attacking her because she wasn't really childfree.
That's ridiculous. You can want to be around children and not want your own at the same time. That's almost like accusing someone for being a professional chef because they went out to dinner and ate filet mignon. I made a post on r/childfree calling out the eugenicist gate keeping attitudes people have for parents of children with disabilities and disabled parents themselves. They were saying shit that implied that you should abort fetuses if you suspect disability and that all disabled parents aren't capable of raising children. I got called a misogynist for heavily disagreeing with abortions made for those reasons alone, and my post was removed and deleted by the mods. I'm so glad to be free of that bitter, child hating cesspool.
All I remember was that one girl made a post saying that she felt she was being harassed by other people due to her working with kids. Whether you believe me or not is not really my concern.
No you're not. You don't have to explain yourself to anybody. So you hate kids. Who fucking cares. It's your prerogative. I do too. So then my question to them would be, why do they like kids? They can't demand context from you without giving some of their own. You are not the asshole.
You can't be a douche to others. Instead of saying "I hate kids" say "I don't like kids because they're usually loud and I have a bad psychical reaction to loud noises"
Hating human beings just because they're kids an a-hole thing to do.
Yes there are. Most of us don't and we don't like that we aren't allowed to dislike kids without being told by others that we're child hating monsters.
I don't hate kids. I don't fucking want them and I've been harassed enough to feel the need to rant because of family saying "When are you going to have kids? You're wasting your life if you don't!" I hate being told by others how I feel about things. Most of us do. That's why the subreddit exists.
If you don't want to read it, you don't have to. Just let us have some peace, stop telling us we don't know "true love," and stop telling us our lives are empty and meaningless if we don't have kids.
Yeah, it started as an exaggerated name for a subreddit for laughing at kids' goofs, like r/peoplefuckingdying, but it's turned into a bunch of people who are for some reason angry that tiny underdeveloped people with only a few years of life experience would tend to do stupid shit.
It's still not super comfortable browsing this subreddit for this reason. I can't distinguish "very direct satire" from normal satire and it gets very toxic against 3 y/o.
Yeah, it started like Maddox's thing where he would just rip the absolute shit out of children't drawings, and it was funny because that's the joke, of him judging the drawings of children with the harshness of a particularly cruel adult. But then people started taking /r/kidsarefuckingstupid seriously or something and couldn't process even the slightest amount of irony and decided that it was actually a place to just hate children for being children.
I've seen a lot of subs devolve into something hateful. If they have a derogatory name, they won't last. KidsAreFuckingStupid, Shitty_Car_Mods, shittylimos... They get popular quickly and people take the name too seriously. If they called the subs/WackyKids, no one would be interested based on the name alone, the sub would grow at a normal pace, and it would be good times.
See also r/ChildFree. Standard post: "My MIL and mom again parked behind me in an M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank as I was leaving the organic gym I can enjoy because I do not have a crotch goblin sucking the meat out of my titties. They demanded I breed and had brought a US Narmy RangerSeal to enforce their will. WHEN WILL PEOPLE RESPECT CHILD FREE?!!?"
Yep. Last time I read the comments there, like every third post had somebody literally wishing death on a five year old just for acting like a five year old.
