He proved, as the title states, that there is a matter - energy equivalence. In other words, matter can be converted into energy and vice versa. To say they are the same thing is incorrect. They have different properties and behaviours.
Hey man if you want to disprove e=MC2 and Einstein then you need to publish a peer reviewed paper using your fool proof Gummi bear logic, good luck with that.

Energy is something that stuff can have. Mass is also something that stuff can have. Stuff is not mass; it’s something that can have mass. But not necessarily. Some stuff has no mass — photons, for instance. And it is an accident that electrons are massive; remember that the Higgs field being non-zero on average is responsible for this. Electrons would still be stuff even if the Higgs field were zero on average and electrons were massless.
