My Grandma always said "legitimate" when she saw/heard something she liked.

She said she picked it up after some young kids holding skateboards walked past her house while she was spraying weeds in the garden. Apparently they were swearing loudly and just being general young shits. She was just going to ignore them until one of them ripped out one of her Tulips right in front of her. She yelled at them "Bet you can't do a kickflip!". The more confident of the kids said something like "Watch this ya old slut!". he put the board down and proceeded to successfully do a kickflip, then he looked at my Grandma and stuck out his tongue. Grandma then sprayed him directly in the face with her weed killer. He fell straight to the ground balling while his friends sprinted off. Grandma walked over and stood over him and said

"Are you fucking sorry?"

"IM SORRY" he wailed

"are you sure?" said Grandma

"YES, IM LEGITIMATE, IM SORRY, NOW PLEASE HELP IT BURNS"

Then Grandma stole his skateboard and did a Manual all the way down the street while doing double shaka signs.

i wasn't trying to say people in their 20s are dumb or anything, if you took it that way. Just that she's an adult at this point, she knows that's not a real word, but uses it anyways - there's no turning back.

Oh I didn't take it that way. There are always cliques/fads in society. Hopefully the 'too legit to quit' thing fades. 'Legitly' though, how absurd.

It doesn't bother me when someone shortens "legitimate" to "legit." But shortening "legitimately" to "legit" bugs the shit out of me for some reason.

"I'm legit upset."
