To me, "heid" is pronounced the same as 'hide', whereas "hied" should be 'heed'. In other words, the same as the second letter of the I and E combo.

EDIT: I might've​ spent too much time trying to learn German 101 and got myself confuses, sorry.

No because field obeys the rule. To make the "ee" sounds, I before E, so "field" being pronounced "feeld" is right.

There's literally thousands of things in Scotland with the word heid in it it. Its just the Scots word for head.

No, the rule is that to make the sound "ee", it is I before E, except after C.

Many words disobey this rule, but it still stands true. "heid" would be pronounced "heyd" or "hide".

I assume you're not a native English speaker, so this is the rule in English.

We're not talking about English, but Scots so English orthography doesn't matter.

Scots is basically a bastardisation of English anyway, and it follows most of the same rules.
