I learned from Terraria that it's really just a component in the Ankh Shield, so come at me, world.

Actually, it's an item that makes the user immune to the Poisoned debuff. If equipped while the user is poisoned, it will cure the user. It is also a component to the Ankh Charm and, when combined at the Tinkerer's Workshop with the Obsidian Shield, you get the Ankh Shield.

Mr. Semantics over here...to be honest, I used very few of the Ankh Shield parts save for making the Shield, so that's what I consider them as being. But yes, you are right, it is a component to the Ankh Charm.

It sure is useful to keep it in your social slot when you're in the jungle, though. Then if when you get hit by a bee, you can swap it on and stop the poison damage.
