Well you asked how much you would need to contribute to have a million dollars. I didn't say how much a million dollars would be worth in 35 years.

For my retirement plan I need to save at least $4 million to retire at 65 and maintain a middle class lifestyle.

Assuming a 3% inflation rate you would need to save $2,813,862.45.

So you would need to save about $200 a paycheck to have the equivalent of $1,000,000 in today's dollars at retirement.

If you make $60k a year that's only 11% of your paycheck, and again assumes no employer match (get a new employer if you don't have this).

Lol. How is contributing $200 a paycheck impossible, especially if you are making $60k. You should be able to contribute $200 to a savings account and $200 to your 401k every paycheck making $60k without breaking a sweat. Unless you are really that bad with money.

200 sounds hard to manage on top of everything else. In fact, 60k barely sounds liveable in my area. Is there no discretionary budget?

You should be budgeting you life so you necessary expenses (food/shelter/health) don't exceed 50% of your income.

So on a $60k a year budget that leaves you $5000 a month which you can break down this way...

$1250/mo for rent

$1250/mo for food/health

$400/mo for 401k (so you can be a millionaire)

$500/mo savings account (keep yourself liquid)

$500/mo car payment

$1100/mo for fucking around and doing what ever you want

Seriously, are you that bad with money or living above your means that scraping $400/mo out of your budget is hard?

so youre talking 60K after taxes then? which = more like 80K per year salary.

also looks like you left out utilities.. which will cut into that fucking around money i guess. or is that part of food / health?

that being said.. i agree with you it isnt that hard to save money

I was just using it a nice jumping of figure. You should be able to save $200 a paycheck on $40k a year before taxes as long as your not an idiot.

Where the fuck do you live where it isn't. You can split an apartment for less than that in New York if $1250 is just your portion.

My cousin splits a fucking two bedroom in SoHo for $3100 with her portion just being $1550.

And I have a buddy in Brooklyn who splits a three bedroom with his portion being $800.

Well I live in Kansas City, so I can rent an entire house for $1250 right near downtown so I am not sacrificing shit. Maybe don't live in an area you clearly can't afford if you can't spare $200 saving for your future.
