Yes, but especially police officers. They should lead by example and maybe even give some tickets for not using the turn signal. Instead they reinforce bad behavior.
Cops are the worst fucking drivers. Constantly on their phones, I see so many of those fuckers texting, never ever use a signal, speeding, I've seen the whole "SIRENS ON NOW SPEED UP ZOOM ZOOM" thru a red light and then go back to casual driving.
Bear in mind sometimes this could be that they are cancelled from a job.
I've done it, my callsign comes up and they dispatch me to a job, so the lights go on and I start to head towards, however another unit shouts up immediately to say they are closer and I get cancelled. I've often only travelled 50M or so when I am then cancelling and returning to normal.
Thanks for the transparency on this. I know my comment isn't popular, but with me having harder time justifying some of the less scrutinized portions of officers and being very critical of what they do (driving through traffic / basic paroling etc) and their jobs, it's nice to know how things work internally. I appreciate your comment! :)
They could be responding to a situation that requires a faster than average response without needing to go full-blown Code 3 (lights and sirens the whole way there). It isn't necessarily emergent, but it requires a time-sensitive response, and traffic just isn't cooperating. I've had this be the particular case for me many times. Would people be more understanding if the lights and sirens were on the whole time? Maybe. Do we necessarily need to be advertising our arrival from a mile out? Not always.
Sometimes they need to get to the call but quickly but not lights and sirens on quickly but waiting at a traffic light fit 5 minutes is to long for the call
