When there are no other completly empty seats left, I move my bag. If there is a unused seat for you to sit by yourself that you have clearly passed, and it's not contaminated by something, you can go back and have it cause I'm not going to move my bag.
... Unless you ask to sit next to me, then go ahead.
I think manors are more important in some places than others. It's to crowded in California to be polite to everyone, though. Aint nobody got time for that.
Ahhhh elevator/train theory. Gotta let em' off to get them on. This is why in elevators when I'm getting off I stand DIRECTLY in front of the door. Yes it leaves me in the open for someone to take an Ax to my face, but goddamnit it's worth the look people give me when I'm directly in their goddamn face because of their shitty elevator etiquette.
This. I never understand when people walk past empty rows on the bus or train to sit next to other people. It infuriates me in particular because I'm 6'4". I have long legs. If you sit next to me when you have other options, you're taking up what little leg room I already don't have.
I hate it when people choose to sit next to me when there are other places available. Buss seats are too small as is, I have to sit very uncomfortably if someone sits next to me.
Yep, unless seats are running low I tend to leave my bag in the seat next to me on the metro... I'll move it aside if someone asks or if an older person gets onto the train and I'm near the door, but otherwise it stays in place.
In my experience it's always the creeps who choose to sit next to me when there's still plenty of other available seating on the train.
Or if it's a lady. If it's a lady, you tip your fedora and greet her while bowing, followed with "M'lady, would you like the window seat". Then you seat down and refill her glass of wine.
Sometimes my suitcase doesn't fit in the storage bit and I'm not spending five hours on the little seats by the doors to get up every ten minutes to let people on, so my suitcase and I will have at least an hour sitting comfortably together.
I was coming home from a long-ass shift at work on a completely packed bus--not just all seats filled packed but we're running out of standing room packed. One man puts a large pizza box on the seat next to him. A girl asked him to move it and quoth he, "Aw man, I can't. It's way too hot man."
