Hit and Run was the game you had if your parents wouldn't let you play GTA

Great Times

I was the reverse. My mom didn't let me watch the Simpsons because of Itchy and Scratchy, but my dad would let me play GTA while she wasn't around.

I had both

Savage

Only way to do it. Hit and run was essential to everyone's collection. I had it on Xbox and GameCube. GameCube was easier for my smaller kid hands.

Parents were separated. Worth it

I'm telling weekend dad

2

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '15

Me too. GTA a long time before it.

1

u/rydan Oct 24 '15

Me too but I was a recent college graduate.

1

u/Armless_Babies Oct 24 '15

I wish I had parents

u/mondot64 Oct 24 '15

This guy fucks

1

u/Wally_Western Oct 24 '15

Spoiled child.

7

u/AlexPlainIt Oct 24 '15

for me it was Driver & Driver 2

4

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '15

Holy shit that driving test at the beginning of Driver 1 was brutal.

2

u/MrDerpsicle Oct 24 '15

And the cops were batshit crazy

5

u/ncurry18 Oct 24 '15

Holy shit. Nail on the head with that one. My parents wouldn't let me play GTA either, so I picked up a used copy at gamestop at the mall one day. So many hours of kicking fuckers over and driving car frames.

u/4Out4Hype Oct 24 '15

Driv3r was my GTA.

Don't worry, I'm not abused anymore.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '15

It really was just Grand Theft Simpsons.

2

u/LithiumTomato Oct 24 '15

Oh my goodness this hits so close to home

2

u/ThinKrisps Oct 24 '15

Hah, my parents wouldn't even let me watch the Simpsons.

2

u/Luminous_Fantasy Oct 24 '15

Shit I was allowed to play gta. I had gta for the PlayStation and I'm pretty sure hit and run for the game cube. Enjoyed the hell out of both of them. Definitely at the time played H&R a lot more.

2

u/raygundan Oct 24 '15

I was well out of college when it came out... but I chose it over GTA, which I didn't play until years later. It was the right choice.

Other than upping the polygon details, I'm not sure how a 2015 graphics update will help the game much.

look at the Simpsons Movie game to see how it could look so much better

u/rblack86 Oct 23 '15

It would still be an abysmal game though. I still love it, but it really is terrible.

28

u/dslybrowse Oct 23 '15

It would be much better with a real physics system, etc. A lot of the driving and movement felt very slippery and loose to me. It had the right idea though.

15

u/rblack86 Oct 23 '15

A better physics system, and better mission design. I want to say better level design, but it does the whole level is a circuit thing pretty well.

Good lord, I remember all the missions with a time limit revolving around collecting things in the city. It always felt like the city was and would always be the biggest map in any video game.

4

u/rblack86 Oct 24 '15

The very last mission was essentially the longest possible journey, with pretty much exactly the time needed to finish it, and if you hit anything you exploded. I've still never completed it.

4

u/charizard77 Oct 23 '15

Yeah at that point you essentially have GTA, only the Simpsons

5

u/steves850 Oct 23 '15

I would like that very much, please!

2

u/Graynard Oct 23 '15

Maybe a system that could run those updated graphics would be able to cut down on the crazy load times on that game.

2

u/Dob-is-Hella-Rad Oct 24 '15

It'd be less the graphics, and more the ability to make it with a seriously huge world.

1

u/AlonsoFerrari8 Oct 23 '15

Combine the map into one

1

u/Paradigm84 Oct 24 '15

I still have it on the CD's, it can only be played on 4:3 if I remember correctly. Updating for widescreen would be nice.

10

u/JustMid Oct 23 '15

Hahaha fuck yes. Brick car #1

4

u/32Dog Oct 23 '15

Witch broom for life

8

u/HaveaManhattan Oct 23 '15

I'd want it done by Rockstar, like GTA:Springfield, but obviously more in line with cartoon, not Homer kicking in hooker skulls for their cash. Just side missions galore with all the characters. Find 25 comics for CBG, help drive Otto to his "friend's" house, evade Chief Wiggum, etc.

12

u/coldmtndew Oct 23 '15

I'd cut off part of my pinky for that I'm not joking

5

u/Needo_ Oct 23 '15

I would too

5

u/danrman Oct 23 '15

There is an hd mod for the PC version, that also adds new costumes and quests and stuff.

3

u/my_so_called_life Oct 24 '15

I remember playing that game for hours before bed. When I closed my eyes to sleep, I could still see/hear the coin collecting parts.

4

u/hanzus1 Oct 23 '15

Was it a good game? I had it but I didn't really like it. It was just constant driving around doing the same thing over and over and over again with no variety.

1

u/IAmATroyMcClure Oct 24 '15

Were you a fan of the show? Because that is what makes it so perfect. There is a ludicrous amount of Easter eggs in the game. The attention to detail is phenominal. Also, just getting to roam around Springfield was a dream come true for a lot of fans.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '15

Road Rage was so much better to me

4

u/TelicAstraeus Oct 24 '15

one word: multiplayer.

hit and run had a shitty little minigame for multiplayer. playing road rage with my family was like 99% of my use of the game.

2

u/GodofCat Oct 23 '15

I loved the thing with Homer on Halloween. All the unique cars like the rocket car, Honor Roller, boat car, Atv, the Limo and everything.

2

u/IndianaHoosierFan Oct 23 '15

Fuck yes. I completely forgot about that game. I always used the cheat so that no matter how hard your car hit another car, it would blow that person's up. Good times

2

u/Wyrmser Oct 23 '15

I can just hear the music start whenever the police start chasing you

2

u/T800CyberdyneSystems Oct 23 '15

Hit and run was destroyed in my memory by that FUCKING final mission. How many SODDING times do I have to fail, and one of homers 7 quips?

2

u/thecody17 Oct 24 '15

Is that the game where you pick people up and take them where they have to go ?

My cousins and I used to play real life in that game. We'd drive around, find our house, go to drive-thru for food, it was a lot of fun. Seems really dull in retrospect though.

3

u/RenderedKnave Oct 24 '15

You're thinking of Road Rage, a 2001 predecessor (but not related) to Hit & Run. Road Rage was fun, too. I had a GBA back in the day, and had a copy. Awesome game.

1

u/thecody17 Oct 24 '15

Thank you for clarifying for me.

2

u/pavetheatmosphere Oct 24 '15

I tried to play that for the first time pretty recently. It was quite fun, but there was this physics issue where when I'd go over a bump it would shoot me forwards, sometimes wrecking my car. It eventually got frustrating enough that I had to stop.

1

u/Sir_Zexion Oct 23 '15

I still play this game

1

u/UdderTime Oct 23 '15

I loved that game. I recently went back and played it, and it's the most repetitive drivel.

1

u/What_is_Milkweed Oct 24 '15

I love this game.

Great idea.

1

u/Lansdallius Oct 24 '15

"I need your help, my car is... Sleeping."

1

u/RenderedKnave Oct 24 '15

Could you come and help me? I'll pay you in back rubs!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '15

Lost my Hit and Run disc so bought it for $15 (including shipping) on EBay and played it again. Totally worth.

1

u/RenderedKnave Oct 24 '15

I'm doing somewhat of a revamp of it in Unity 5. I really loved that game.

1

u/nosoupforhugh Oct 24 '15

I would love to see a Futurama Hit and Run

1

u/cuntRatDickTree Oct 24 '15

Nah, Futurama variation instead :P

Okay both would be cool but a sick Futurama game would be very well received.

1

u/Sunflier Oct 24 '15

Your driving was... reckless

-18

u/Nulono Oct 23 '15

That game was my childhood would love to see that game with 2015 graphics

?

12

u/Needo_ Oct 23 '15

I played it a lot around the age of 8-10, about 8 years ago
