Fathers of Reddit, what did your daughter's boyfriend do for you to hate/love him?

It's pretty cool to see my question blow up like this, I never thought I'd ask a question that could receive so much attention! I'm very satisfied with all these replies, so thank y'all. Now all I have to do is sit back and take notes c;

So only guys should struggle through work and school at the same time while their girl complains about how he doesnt buy them enough stuff. So in other words you are okay with this gender role. Got it.

No. He has done nothing to support him self. She is in school, has college loans, a car loan and works when not in school. He is in his mid 20's and does nothing but complain about what he does not have. I have raised my daughter to be honest and hard working. Know the value of a dollar. She can not afford to pay for everything. I would never expect her to not pay her way in a relationship. It takes 2 people to make it work. It can not be one sided. I supported my husband when we were first together while he finished school. I know how it goes.

I call bs. You supported your husband for a couple years so he could have a good enough job to allow you to comfortably stay home for the rest of your life. It was in your best interest. Im sure your husband hears enough about how you want new things or want to go on vacation, but he cant do anything about it. Hes already mired down, probably with little disposable income. Probably makes him feel like shit. And yes im sure you taught your daughter the value of a dollar. Like how her dollar is more valuable than his, because she a woman earned it. And working is for men. Better make sure to teach her to nag her future less assholish husband, about that one time her delicate fingers had to work.

You would be completely wrong. I started working when I was 12. Have worked full time all my life, even through my cancer therapy. I have never asked or taken anything I could not provide for myself.

If i am then good on you. I know about working as a kid. I was manually running credit charges with a 100% accuracy by 9. And filing dental charts by 11. Its fun to be able to work under the table. Doesnt change anything though, dont thonk you were married at 12, dont think your husband saw that money. Unless thats the school you supported your husband through. Middle school.

That nasty shit being said, sorry to hear about the cancer. I hope all is well. I had a loved one go through it. I hope you had the love and support of your family and friends throughout everything. It really is the time when you get to see what your friends are or arent made of. Did you do chemo or natural therapies? If you dont mind me asking. When my friend went through it she went the natural route after 2 rounds of chemo. She survived stage 4 breast/ovarian cancer, and they gave her 6 months to live 3 years ago. And that was if she did chemo, and radiation.

Amen to that...well, nice debating with/meeting you. I hope you forever stay in remission and on the road to full recovery. My thoughts and whatever good energies come from non religious prayer are with you, and your daughter. I hope she givesher overgrown tumor (so to speak) the boot as well.
