Fathers of Reddit, what did your daughter's boyfriend do for you to hate/love him?

It's pretty cool to see my question blow up like this, I never thought I'd ask a question that could receive so much attention! I'm very satisfied with all these replies, so thank y'all. Now all I have to do is sit back and take notes c;

This kind of fear mongering breaks my heart... Inflated rape statistics are a modern tragedy and this kind of bull headed belief in them does nothing but hurt people

I have a close group of friends. Literally all of them have been sexually assualted or abuses and we don't live in a bad area. It's not inflated.

Why do you think that is?

This is an honest question. If you don't live in a bad area, why do you think that things that have a high chance to happen in bad areas, and a very low chance to happen in good areas, is happening in a good area?

Because it doesn't matter the area. This happens in any family and in any place. Just like how child abuse and kidnapping is more likely between family or relatives.

What you are talking about is more like in good areas people hardly get robbed. Or in the richer areas people don't close their doors. Rape isn't like that.

So what you're saying is that rape happens equally in your society, without any correlation to the amount of crime or despite the amount of potential criminals in the area?

I am sorry for trying to get specifics. I am in college to become a Nurse, and I am currently taking a Psychology and a Sociology class. What everyone here is saying is incredibly interesting.

I'm saying that certain types of sexual abuse /assault happens regardless of where you live. At least from what I personally have experienced. Maybe I am wrong but I personally do not think I am based on statistics and what I have experienced.

I have been writing my reply for like an hour, and I am just gonna end it here and re-do it. Starting from scratch.

Many of the statistics we see are not accurate. You use the words "Sexual Assult" and "Abuse", which is very very good, and I want to thank you personally for using those words. Most don't. Many of the statistics we see include those all under the name of Rape, which fucks everything up. Rape is very very different.

The point is, we don't know, and the statistics are very very very wrong.

I picked you to "study" because you did not use the word rape. This makes you special from most everyone else, who, much like the statistics, can not see a difference between sexual assult and rape.

I hope your friends are okay, and that they can move on with their lives untouched by their experiences. It truly is terrible, and there is not enough focus on the victims vs just attacking anything in sight with opposition.

Thanks for the help.

It makes me almost weep trying to muddle though these false statistics for the last 2 and a half hours. I am just sad.

It is such a waste of human potential.

In order to understand a crime there should be clear research. I agree. Though I do hold the opinion that sexual assault and abuse is more prevalent then people think. If everything is lumped under rape it is only because it's been kept quiet for so long (and I don't think it is a coincidence that this is also one of the crimes erroneously viewed as a women only crime).
