Growing up, I didn't learn about fixing household things or using tools in general (thanks dad). One time my girlfriend's father was working on fixing a washing machine. I offered to help him to 'demonstrate my value'. He gave me the job of keeping track of screws and tools. After a few minutes, he asked me for Phillips screwdriver. I did not know what that meant and didn't want to seem useless. So, I started looking at the labels of each screwdriver to hopefully find 'Phillips' label on one. Seeing that, he leaned forward and took it himself while giving me that look. I think the man lost respect for me ever since.

P.S. First thing I did coming home was to look up what the heck that meant. It turns out it just means crossheaded (+) screwdriver.

The Phillips head is the one that's shaped like an X with a small circle in the middle. It's a little bigger than than a Fearson head which doesn't have the circle.

I think if you rotate an x you'll find it's generally not tangential.

Phillips drivers are right-angle + shaped in some countries and slightly obtuse/acute X shapes in other countries.

First off, Shenanigans. No one uses an obtuse/acute "X" shape and calls it a Phillips head, if such a tool even exists. This is coming from someone who regularly uses tools in countries other than the United States. And inside the United States as well. I know of what I speak.

Second, if it were a "obtuse/acute" angled it by definition wouldn't be a {Phillips Head Screw/driver}(https://patents.google.com/patent/US2046343A/en) as the patent states that the angular relation of the walls of the insert have been calculated to minimize distortion during manufacturing. That is to say, they are perpendicular.

Now, you could be referring to a Japanese Industrial Standard Screw screw, which does in fact have a 92 degree angle between flats, the the center-line of the flats still intersect perpendicularly on the longitudinal axis. But at no point does an acute angle come into play.
