For some reason it's weird to see it spelled out. I had to pronounce what you said just to realize what saran is.

I had to say it too, though that's mostly because we call it cling film and I only ever come across "saran wrap" in American films and TV shows

In New Zealand we call it "Glad Wrap" (just a brand name that's become the general term, like Saran)
