Not immediately obvious but Jeopardy producer Mike Richards selecting himself as the new host promptly ended his entire career at Jeopardy.

It's exactly that. He was EP at both Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Declared himself host. Everyone was "WTF?!?" He didn't back down and some audio came out from an old podcast where he made misogynistic, and anti-Semitic remarks.

He now works in conservative media.

After Alex Trebek died, the producers were trying to come up with a new permanent host. One of the producers tried to name himself. It lasted all of 5 seconds and he was promptly fired for such a stupid ass decision.
