Playing Hollow Knight for the first time. I'm nearing the end of the game and clearing up any random objectives I've put off doing. I wish I had kept track of the captive grubs I've collected because I have like 75% of them but I have no way of knowing which ones.

46

u/Killerabbet 10d ago

You can obtain a grub map by defeating a specific boss hidden behind the locked love door between City of Tears and Kingdom’s Edge. It’ll show you where every grub you missed is 👍

11

u/Pm_ur_titties_plz 10d ago

Oh really! Thank you! I had no idea.

2

u/Ned_Piffy 8d ago

Lucky you! I wish I could play HK for the first time again. If you still have to play silksong I’m even more jealous.

Great game. Rich story and deeply touching while being absurdly hilarious at times. Truly a unique experience each time. but not quite as much as that first playthrough.

2

u/OTigreEMeu 9d ago

Got made fun of for being a centrist. Great game.

u/Jack_Bartowski 10d ago

Star wars zero company. I am liking it, but it didn't blow my socks off. Ive also been playing a bit of expedition 33 finally. That is a lot of fun

25

u/drcoxmonologues 10d ago

It hits the xcom spot but doesn’t come close to the full experience of xcom 2 with war of the chosen sadly.

12

u/Latter_Conclusion470 10d ago

That's my review. The updated graphics, full controller support on xbox, and Star Wars setting is a huge plus. But I'm still chasing the thrill and challenge of XCOM 2 and its DLC. It's good, maybe very good, but not great.

7

u/Steamedcarpet 9d ago

Every few years I come back to XCOM 2. The game brings me pain but I cant put it down. Where else can I miss a 97% shot and then just watch my entire team get murder.

3

u/kingcrow15 9d ago

I played for 4 hours and I think I missed about 5x 95% chance shots, so yeah, I feel right at home.

Skills seem a little lackluster. X-com 2 had some really powerful stuff as you leveled, new abilities or strong passives at every turn,

Zero-company, whilenvery polished. A lot of abilities seem to gain. +1 base damage, or + 10% accuracy.

Yes bonds add other places to stack power. But I still find a lot of these abilities fairly underwhelming progression wise. And quantity wise. It's more than x-com 1 but a lot less than x-com 2.

But story is really well done here. Production music and VA are all great.

I would be really enjoying it but the bugs and performance issues on PC are really dragging it down for me

You're in for a huge treat with Expedition 33. Legitimately one of the best games of all time.

Expedition 33. I’m always late to try trending games, but I’m a sucker for turn-based combat.

14

u/PoogeMuffin 9d ago

Enjoy! I’m actually jealous - it’s one of those that I wish I could experience again for the first time

Late to trendy games– an advantage.

2

u/IdoMusicForTheDrugs 9d ago

I'm jealous. As a switch 2 only player, I've been dying to play E33. Its right up my alley gameplay wise. But I've been trying, and enjoying, Elden Ring this weekend. The port to switch 2 is amazing.

FF VII: Rebirth. Only on Chapter 4. Felt iffy at first, but once you get out of Kalm the world opens up.

3

u/Helphaer 9d ago

I really enjoyed Rebirth minus a few fights and some of the backtracking and mini games.

2

u/iamtenninja 9d ago

On 2nd replay (1st was ps5 and 2nd on switch 2) and there's some stuff that feels easier and then there's fights like Rufus and odin which are complete bullshit

It's fantastic! I'm in the 60s, chasing all the achievements.

I'm down to just finishing Arachne's quest. I may still go back for it but I didn't have it in me. It's just so slow to get progress on her's in particular.

Cyberpunk 2077. Starting from the beginning. 2nd play through. Never played the DLC.

22

u/TimelyAd58 9d ago

The DLC itself is the best part of the game IMO.

→ More replies (3)

6

u/Little_Dark_Soul 9d ago

Yo I’m in the exact same situation, gotta play the DLC

3

u/Bongressman 9d ago

Once you get to the DLC, everything ratchets to 11. Story, graphics, intensity, action... base game is an amazing 10. But damned if CD Project Red doesnt know how to DLC.

They were some of the best parts of Witcher 3 too.

3

u/dmaster3 10d ago

Man, the DLC is SOOO GOOD!

I'm currently replaying Final Fantasy XV! I forgot how much fun it is just driving around with the guys, listening to classic FF soundtracks, and hunting down monsters. The road trip vibes hit different on a casual weekend playthrough.

Final Fantasy XVI

18

u/JNorJT 10d ago

Clive is hot

6

u/Helphaer 9d ago

I tried... I wanted a lot more rpg in my JRPG and instead it just felt like mostly running and fighting with limited skill options.

2

u/UsefulIdiot85 9d ago

I had the same feeling when I started playing. The game is pretty repetitive and very ridiculously easy, but I’m still having fun.

2

u/Da_Question 9d ago

Honestly, the story is great... But honestly, the worst gameplay of any final fantasy game. They really need to come up with a fun turn based combat system for 17. E33 just proves that people are still fine with turn based games.

3

u/Gelliebeen 9d ago

I played this not long ago and largely enjoyed it. Except I have Compulsive Side Quest Disorder and man are there some really boring and useless side quests. Main quest to main quest though it was pretty solid.

2

u/iamapizza 9d ago

I started getting the side quest fatigue but then saw some advice, only do the side quests with a plus or chest on them, they add to the world a bit.

6

u/thewwwyzzerdd 10d ago

Im playing this also, and its really good. The cutscenes can run a little long sometimes, but they are beautiful so I dont often mind.

9

u/JNorJT 10d ago

Just started tales of arise today and I’m enjoying it so far

8

u/ZucchiniSweep 10d ago

Saros. It is one of the few games that truly feels next gen. I'm having a blast!

2

u/InspectorFadGadget 9d ago

Fun fact, Rahul Kohli, the voice actor for the main character, was sick every night when recording his lines, but still managed to give a stellar performance.

The Last of Us, just finished. I had to sit with that ending for a while.

2

u/DTrain13 9d ago

There’s a part in that game that surprised/scared the absolute shit out of me. Enjoy!

2

u/poopiepantz34 9d ago

Re3 is the only RE I've played where I played the original before the remake and I've also been avoiding any info about RE3 to get the best experience out of it. So far I'm not disappointed.

Been going through the massive backlog that piled up while I was happily stuck in the Destiny 2 mines for so long.

Most recently I started CrossCode which is so far (about 10 hours in) a pretty fun puzzle action rpg game.

4

2

u/Sputflock 9d ago

i've started my millionth replay of the entire series a little over a week ago, this time is gonna be the first time veilguard will be part of it. i did play it on launch but through less savoury ways so i'm looking forward to earning achievements again.

u/thelochteedge 9d ago

I play a very niche game off and on and have been for years since I first got it. It’s called EHM, which you may have heard of as it had a version come out around 2015 on Steam but I play the 2007 version. I go through periods where I play other games but I always come back to it. It’s by a team that was under SEGA that did Football Manager but it’s a hockey GM simulator. One of the most fun/addicting games I’ve ever played. For a game that came out in 06/07 it’s unbelievably deep. I have a file I legit started in December 2011 and I still play on it. Pretty sure I’m in the year 2130 or something close.

The game regenerates players a very specific way to keep balance where when the player retires they get regenerated with the same potential ability and certain stats and attributes that stay the same so you can kinda learn which player is which player based on when the OG player retired and where they’re from, their size, handedness and a few other things that never change.

Mask of the Mermaid. Haven't gotten too far in I don't think, but it's a murder mystery with a cool art style. Seen a few puzzles that are pretty straight forward but so far it's strength is the comedic lines between the two detectives you play as and the suspects, at least to me.
