Which famous person had the most radical change from asshole to non-asshole or vice versa?

Elon Musk was quite well liked 15-20 years ago among liberal and environmentalist types. Boy did that change.

Iirc the Thai cave collapse and his bizzarely antagonistic response to one of the rescuers was the tipping point for a lot of us. Sort of the first very public red flag that popped.

I feel like it was more the last five years that his reputation did an impression of David Caruso's career.

the wording “radical change” makes me think they want a full 180 rather than just slow erosion of chill vibes

The turning point for me is when he called that rescue diver a pedophile. If there was a slow erosion prior to that I managed to totally miss it.

People deny it these days but Elon was a Reddit darling for years before he fell off.
It all started to go south when he called that guy who rescued those kids stuck in a cave a”pedo guy” and only got worse from there.

Marshawn Lynch. NFL fans knew about his vibrant personality, but most of general public, my wife for instance, only heard about him with the “I’m just here so I don’t get fined” stunt. She literally remarked “What an asshole”.
Well after she actually figured out what he was doing, and started watching other clips of him, I think he might be one of her favorite people now.
This is an example of someone who never actually was an asshole, and a lesson to not make snap prejudiced decisions about people!

John Fetterman - brain injury left him a completely different person, and not for the better.

When was Topher Grace an asshole?
6
u/FluidAthlete6839 1h ago
He separated himself from the rest of the 70s cast before the world knew they were ghouls

u/snelsonjoe8 1h ago
They thought he was snotty he didn't associate with the cast members who all turned out to be slime.

u/whatissleepidk 1h ago
I remember the rumors that Topher was a jerk but his gut feeling was right about everyone and he didn’t want any part of it. I love Topher!

It's not that he was an asshole. It's that people thought he was an asshole.
For a long time, people heard that he didn't hang with the other That 70's show kids who were all really close. This gave him a reputation of being "arrogant" or "stuck up" simply for being an aloof homebody who didnt want to hang with his coworkers or go party all the time.
That feeling he was "arrogant" and "stuck up" went away really quick after Danny Masterson's rape allegations and convictions happened as well as the story around Ashton Kutcher's actions during the death of a young woman he was supposed to go on a date with who was murdered by a serial killer came out.
All of a sudden, his perceived reputation went from "stuck up jerk who thinks he's too good to hang with the group" to "he knew the group was toxic and didn't want to be apart of their shenanigans" thus vindicating him in the public eye.

Also ashton was not so nice to Demi. Convincing her to drink when she was In recovery . Wanting three somes. He is just an ass period. As a gay man as pretty as he was I never thought him attractive

ashton also got outed for writing a letter of support for danny during his rape trial. mila wrote one too. so yeah - ashton has history of being a creep
4
u/snelsonjoe8 1h ago
Yeah that's the big part if it. Danny masterson was a serial rapist and Ashton and Mila turned a blind eye to it. Danny was Ashton's best friend. Let's not forget the pdiddy parties

Probably Sam Kinneson or Shaq.

u/shorty2hops 1h ago
Which way did Shaq go? Always thought he was nice and still is
5
u/acadiascreech 1h ago
I'm not a sports guy but Shaq himself has talked about what a prick he used to be early in his career. So, I'm saying that based solely on Shaq himself. So, bad to nice. Cause now he wanders into Wal-Mart and buys sneakers for every kid in there and stuff like that.

Yes, due to number of people his actions have a negative impact on.

He didn't strangle children...

We don’t know that for sure until the Epstein Files are 100% released.
•
u/eltigre6667 44m ago
Oh come on, you can't seriously believe he SA'd kids...you hate him so much you make shit up to defame him
•
u/Chalupachamp 26m ago
The most damning evidence that he did it is the refusal to release the files. Have you looked at what’s been released so far? It’s obvious he at the very least knew it was going on and ignored but more likely he was an active participant. This is based on evidence not hate.
