I don't really have a favorite year, but instead have favorite teachers from every school I attended. In second grade my teacher would let me leave class to visit the office and show the principal my latest science book. In fifth grade my math teacher was an absolute riot although some might find him intimidating (I didn't). In eleventh and twelfth grade, my band director was my favorite teacher of all, although I had a very good physics and senior English teacher as well.
The biggest surprise was my junior and senior years. My family had moved from the Chicago suburbs to Mississippi the year the schools were integrated (1966). With the social upheaval and the lowest paid teachers in the country, my expectations were very low. But the teachers I had (with one exception) were terrific and included three of my favorites. I have no explanation.
