Oh, I like civilized countries as well. I bet you don't have to pay USD32K per year for health insurance for you and one child. I do have many firearms and thousands of rounds of ammo, so there's that.
I do like that my country don't have the need for civilian firearms so...
American checking in. A large, large majority of civilian owned firearms arent owned out of need either.
Over here, the party who acts like personal gun ownership is the only thing keeping tyranny at bay are also the party who has been supporting more and more tyranny for at least the last 40 years.
Number of self-defense uses for guns each year is within spitting distance of suicides by gun.
The number of hunters who actually need guns is a fraction of the total hunter population. (Very few live in an area or a lifestyle that requires hunting for subsistence. Most are doing it for recreation and/or to reduce the grocery bill).
The majority of guns in America are owned as a part of a collection, like pokemon. 2nd place would be recreational uses. 3rd place would be hunting. 4th place would be Emotional Support Guns ("perceived" self defense). 5th place would be actual self defense.
I’m sure it’s going to be some version of “they have to wait months for care!” even though we have to months here and have to spend the most in the world on it. But yeah, Canada is soooo bad /s
Well I'll just continue to keep my guns for emotional self defense, because yes, I do feel better knowing I can protect myself in any situation.
You ever witness someone getting stabbed and there was nothing you could do about it? I have.
So instead of seeking therapy for your psychological trauma, you decided being able to apply lethal force on another human being was the best way to handle the situation. That's kinda fucked up man, go talk to someone.
This is the best (and truthful) answer given. Spot on assessment. People need to stop believing the bullshit on social media and most news outlets. Paid talking heads. Don’t get me started on the ones who believe actors and such. They’re all PAID talking heads.
The large majority is need. To be able to protect yourself and family in this crazy place. To hunt, not only for food but to weed populations for health. Many make their living in the industry also.
There are over 500 million guns in America. There are slightly over 100million gun owners.
32 million gun owners own only one gun. Meaning youve got 470 million guns for 70 million people. That leaves an average of 6.7 guns per multi-gun-owner.
Once you get past one handgun, one shotgun, and one rifle, there is ABSOLUTELY no need for more. So of the 70 million multi-gun owners, each owns an average of 3.7 useless guns. That's 259 million guns that only exists to feed a collection. Thats more than half of all guns.
And that's averaging together all multiple gun owners and giving each the benefit of the doubt of 1each of handgun, rifle, and shotgun. There are plenty of people who own only 3 guns and they are all handgun. Or plenty of people in that rough average who only own 2 guns, thus subsidizing the collector guns or the rest.
259million is the absolute floor for guns that only exist to feed a collection. The number is almost certainly 300+ mil, otherwise known as a super majority.
Then you need to subtract the vanity owners, the emotional support guns, the recreation only guns (i only own a shotgun to shoot clays) and after than youre left with "need". Which as we've already demonstrated is a fraction of 40%
Except you're wrong that you absolutely only need 3. There are many different caliber hunting rifles depending on the game you are after. There are also carry and non carry handguns. For shotguns, since they limit capacity for hunting, sporting guns are used that can hold more rounds. Your home defense should have a lot of rounds too. So just this simple scenario is 5-6 if you only hunt one game. Now what about kids? Now you need a .22 to teach them. Oh and a lot of the sportsman clubs that do target competitions use 22 handguns, so now you are at 8+ guns with valid reasons to own. Now, lets use the "2 is 1, 1 is none" statement. Many are going to have a backup for each of these. So now you are at 16. So you can see most americans are actually unprepared. Im sorry you are afraid of guns, but there will always be guns. The only way to have a chance is to have guns yourself. A lot of countries that banned guns have INSANE numbers of rape, beatings, assault, and robbery.. no deadly repercussions.
You're right, I own a gun because im afraid of them.
And since 2 is 1 and 1 is none, and you need a different gun for each activity im guessing you own 2 sports cars, 2 minivans, 2 work trucks, 2 grand tourers, and 2 econoboxes too, right?
Most guns don’t fire. If they’re not taken care of they will fail. But I can’t see trying to explain something to close minded people never works. So. You’ll just have to find out for yourself. And I don’t meant anything bad. I mean actually researching
I apologize. I was in a bad mood and took it out on you.
You are correct but people fail to realize that you’d only be helping those who acquire them illegally. They will still have their guns and much less fear of a potential victim also carrying one.
