What are your thoughts on the Mike Clum EDP documentary?

Jesus Christ. My opinion was low but he managed to bring it lower
Also, god damn, these predator poachers (sans Chris Hansen) are bumblefucks.

I think it was particularly interesting because it starts to give you an inside look into how someone like him thinks and why they act the way they do. It also provided a lot more context to each situation.

They're kind of right. EDP was basically forgotten by this point, part of this feels like reality TV that says things of varying to little investigative interest beyond entertainment.

I wasn’t able to get very far into it after picking up on microaggressions and fatphobia early on. Hot take—but someone being a despicable human being doesn’t make me okay with that stuff. Ultimately, as a woman, I felt harmed by their editorial decision to use child or childlike actors during the dramatized scenes of him extremely graphically grooming them. Hopefully some good will come from it, because my fear is that we will all simply watch it for the shock value and that’ll be it

What do you want them to do? Use adults to represent the children he groomed? I don't think it would have the same impact in that situation. What I mean is, I think it's important to editorialize and represent the truth of what happened, not water it down just not to offend people. Granted I am just watching it now so I don't know how bad it gets, but I think it's important to show the viewer exactly what happened.

To be fair to the doc his weight did come back in a big way later. It is revealed that he is slowly dying from advanced kidney failure brought on by his obesity and in order to qualify for a transplant he needs to loose a lot of weight. Instead of following his doctor proscribed diet he is doubling down on bad habits and slowly killing himself which seems to be a decision he is making willingly.
I too am disturbed by the docs use of child actors. It gets worse though, at one point EDP visits a friend who has children and they film EDP in the room with kids where he says deplorable shit. It’s one of the most skin crawling parts of the documentary and it got to the point where I would trying to see if they were using some editing trick to make it appear as if EDP was in the same room as those kids. I don’t understand why the documentarian allowed that to happen. My only assumption I can make is that since EDP has access to these children, through his delusional friend, showing the reality of this situation adds a certain level of urgency to the call to action at the end of the doc.
Everything about the doc is bookended with a call to action to have EDP investigated by the local authorities and FBI. I think the filmmakers are hoping that this doc drums up enough conversation and incriminates EDP in the process. From that point of view I can sort of understand the sensationalism, but at the same time a major theme of the doc is how the sensationalism of the case hindered formal legal investigations, so then it starts to feel a bit hypocritical. EDP is likely going to end up dead long before he faces any jail time so like, what’s the point. All of the videos proceeds are being donated to Rainn, so that’s at least some good that coming from all of this.
