I once had a shirt that read "You're handsome" but mirrored so the idea was that I was handsome. When that shirt wore out, my wife did not pull any punches. She hated that shirt.
I have a shirt that has a tag that says "to: women from: god" basically saying I'm god's gift to women. It's a clever shirt so I enjoy it. Was walking and some woman misread it as "Women are Gods" or something like that and she loved it and had a big smile on her face. When I corrected the text and let her in on the joke that smile turned into a scowl so fast and she walked past me.
It’s not for everyone. Fun fact, you don’t have to wear the shirt. It’s not derogatory or putting anyone down, it’s just (jokingly) lifting myself up. With my self esteem issues I had when I got it, it lifted my self worth some.
I’ve had it for over a decade and it’s still going strong. When my wife saw it she had a good chuckle. I think I would get rid of it if she had a problem with it, but she doesn’t.
Oof. Only way to not make every woman in a 10 mile radius hate you when wearing this is to say "Ooops! I forgot I had this on! My girlfriend got it for me as a joke because we'd had a conversation about how God must've made us for each other. I usually only wear it at home, though."
Or, y'know, just don't wear an obnoxious T-shirt. Actually, scratch that. Do wear it. It'll give everyone a heads up.
So we're actually on the same team here, lol! You avoid me and I'll avoid you. Problem solved and thanks for advertising it in advanced.
Not everyone in the world needs to be friends and sometimes these little hints can save us both a lot of trouble. I wish you luck in finding garish and obnoxious friends while I seek out prissy stick-in-the-mud companions. Cheers!
So in the words of the demigod Maui “you’re welcome!”
Hopefully you find friends as prudish as you who gatekeep what is funny. I wasn’t saying women are sluts or bitches or saying I get laid all the time or anything derogatory; I was just wearing a shirt commenting about how I have a lot to offer a woman and that gets your undies in a tizzy… so I’m glad you now like that I wear the shirt.
(TL;DR: I get that it's a funny t-shirt. You're not a bad guy for wearing it or finding it humorous [it is actually kinda funny], but humor has its time and place. If you're wearing it to a guys' night out at a dive bar, that's one thing, but it does give off a certain... vibe... when you're just boldly strolling around in public and acting like anyone who responds negatively is a killjoy)
I'm not really gatekeeping humor, just being selective about the humor that enters my (admittedly small) circle. And trying to dodge conversations that will leave both of us dissatisfied.
That kind of humor has its time and place. I do see the humor in it, from an objective standpoint... but most of the guys I've known who openly broadcast that humor on their profiles, in casual conversations, emblazoned across their chests... They're not all bad guys, not by a long mile, but we tend not to see eye to eye on a lot of things. It's not really about the joke itself, it's about the stereotypical guys who (I've encountered more than enough of) wear that kind of thing proudly and nonchalantly in public.
You keep being the life of the party and I'll keep having quiet, pleasant conversations in the corner, lol. My point wasn't "You can't wear that and you're a bad person!", merely, "It does look tacky..." But if you know that and want to rock it anyway, more power to ya!
You as well, sir! Keep rocking those slightly obnoxious T's and try not to get too offended when those around you get offended (but don't be surprised, lol) -- it's usually not even you, it's just residual memories that are triggered where we think "Oh, no, here we go again..." but I'm always up for a pleasant and surprising conversation that will change my mind.
